This project was started by someone on 9thWonders and since we're all Heroes fans, I thought I would spread the effort over here, making it doubly effective.

Here's the details [read. it. ALL!]:

QUOTE(kitty)
Today [November 05 2007] an unofficial foundation was started on the thread titled Season 2 Ending Early? (Urgent!)-Writers Strike!
Its called "1000 cranes for Heroes," and our goal is to fold 1000 cranes all together and send them to the executives at AMPTP.
This is NOT to attempt to bring back the full length season. Instead, this is about supporting our writers and showing the WGA and AMPTP how important this show is to us.

Please send your cranes to this address:
DO NOT SEND ANYTHING IN YET. WE ARE STILL GETTING ORGANIZED!

Those who would like to participate, please post that you would like to. You will be added to the list. This is a list of those participating. I am going to use it to count how many cranes people have done, and who has done what for this project. DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS YOU INTEND TO HELP! thank you! Everyone can do something to help. While our goal is to fold cranes, you can also write letters and send it to the above address. You can also help spread this news around. Or you can help make avatars and signatures and banners for this cause [go here]

Here are some videos for those of you having a hard time making cranes:
Origami:Crane
Karrisa makes a crane
Paper Crane Origami 101

There's a petition going around click here to sign. This is not mandatory. this is for those of you against the strike if you would LIKE to sign it.

FAQS

What are you guys doing?
Ok, so here's our basic goal, everyone who joins is going to be folding as many cranes as they would like, then putting in a generic letter [yet to be written] along with a personal letter [their choice] and sending it to the writers. Simple as that!

Are they going to be sent seperatley or together?
It was decided that it would be better if they were sent seperatley by everyone the world over.

What if I suck at folding cranes?
everyone sucks at everything when they start off. Try your hardest, and if they don't come out perfect, don't sweat it! ITS THE EFFORT THAT COUNTS

I don't have time to fold cranes, but I would like to help. What can I do?
-Post on any other forums? Use on of the signatures made here to show off our campaign. Tell your friends and family! Pass the word along!
-Heard any good information? post it here, it can be helpful to us!
-Know how to do graphics? We are in desperate need of graphics, so if you now how to work that photoshop, you are NEEDED!

If you guys are seriously going to be apart of this effort, reply in this thread.

GH Participants:
1) Aerdna/ Made: 38
2) Misunderstood/ Made: 130
3) minara
4) Cylar
5) Ryan777
6) Ophiophagus

Also, don't take this as an opportunity to send hate mail to the writers for ruining the season by going on strike; this is a positive initiative simply to show appreciation for them. I see how mad you guys are in the Strike Update #2 thread. Keep any negative sentiments in that thread.

As far as the letters are concerned, everyone will be sending a default letter, which is the one below:

QUOTE(CharlieNakamura)
To Whom It May Concern:

We represent a group of fans of the television series, "Heroes." Please accept these origami cranes as a token of our support for the writers, as well as the cast and crew, who have worked so hard to create this series for us. This is a collective effort put forth by fans with the goal of sending a minimum of 1000 cranes.

This project came together as the result of Heroes fans from all over the internet uniting to show our support. The vast online community this show has generated allows us to connect with fans from around the world. We believe that "Heroes" is a prime example of how the internet is increasingly affecting the way we experience our favorite television shows. Because of this, we feel that the writers are justified in their demands to share in any profits from the sale of internet downloads, as well as DVDs and any other new media. It is the writers, after all, who give us the characters and stories we tune in for; and it was a story from "Heroes" that inspired us to send these cranes.

In the episode "Six Months Ago," the character Hiro Nakamura folded 1000 origami cranes in the hope of being granted one wish. As fans of the show, we have spent time and patience in the folding of these cranes to symbolize our hope for the future of "Heroes" and all the other shows and films we love. Our wish is simple: that the writers' demands to be fairly paid for their contributions will be met, so that they can return to their work and continue to entertain us with their stories.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

To this address:

Writers' Guild of America - West
7000 West Third Street
Los Angeles, CA 90048

Additional personal comments to this default or completely separate personal letter are optional, but on this site in particular there is one guideline you must, must, must follow:

DO NOT MENTION THIS SITE.

It has occurred to me that we provide the downloads that the writers are striking to be paid for. We want to continue providing downloads for you, but at the same time respect the writers. In short, it just wouldn't be right sleep.gif

Lastly -- if you want to make your own graphics to spread the word, feel free, here are a couple of userbars that I made:

Here's the video that helped me the most.

Any further info will be reported straight away, and if you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll either answer or relay the question to kitty...now get folding, people! tongue.gif

Anyone?!

Update:

We now have an address to send the cranes and letters to. This is the address of the WGA:

7000 West Third Street
Los Angeles, CA 90048

We also have a default letter that we would like everyone to use. You may add personalized comments in addition to the default:

I've made 4 so far....and omg I made my very first at 1 AM...THAT was interesting. I couldn't get it the first time and threw it aside....now I can make them no problem haha!!

I had an idea for mine. I'm going to buy a small box to place inside my sending package/envelope/box/however I mail it lol. The smaller box will be designed like the top of Kensei's sword, complete with the "godsend" symbol. When you open it, inside will be one crane (I figured one was juuust right for this idea). Next to it, will be tiny scrolls "aged" with tea lol. When you unroll the scrolls, one will be the original letter, the other......my personal one smile.gif

That's a cute idea! Go for it.

Yeah, I had a difficult time getting started too. But after watching many instructional videos, I found the easiest one and I've been folding up a storm.

One thing, though: When writing your personal letters, do not mention this site. I've come to the realization that we provide the downloads that these writers are striking to be paid for. It just wouldn't be right sleep.gif

Hmm, I think you'd better ask the original poster to include that in his original post, to make sure people don't miss out on that piece of information.

And I will also help you repeat what you said, in a more noticeable manner.

DO NOT MENTION THIS SITE.

About the cranes, interesting idea, I wouldn't mind folding some in my spare time.. I'm having holidays now so I am quite free. Problem is... I have to send them overseas and I'm not sure if I wanna go to that extent.

"I forgive you" - Gabriel Gray

Desired Ability (my own creation):
Astral realisation

The ability to see where anyone is anytime. Also, may travel out of body and see things in real time... and if one so desires, one may teleport into the place his consciousness is.

1st level - Body must be in semiconscious or even meditative state. Limited to seeing the place/person and teleportation.
2nd level - Still semiconscious or meditative. Can now see and hear the place. While still able to teleport if desired.
3rd level - Still semiconscious or meditative. Can now see, hear, move/touch, travel freely. While still able to teleport if desired.
4th level - Able to maintain partial alertness, while observing(see, hear, smell, touch/move objects) the other place. And teleportation.
5th level - Almost able to multitask between the two places you're in. Can use selective aspects of power, telekinesis (move/touch), teleport, observe.

Sick applications:
Teleporting into someone, causing him to explode, while you materialize inside out of him.
Teleporting your hand into people's body.
At level 5, using your invisible friend to help you in combat.
Stealing powers via going into people's bodies, seeing their brain, dna and blood and then telekinetically modifying your own to steal a power. (Oh YES)

Thanks for the emphasis, Cylar tongue.gif I'll probably add all of the new information to the first post.

So I'm folding like 200 mini cranes [one for each person involved] about an inch and a half in wing span.....that's my goal lol. I tried counting all the people involved in the making of Heroes. I lost count after like 80....then scrolled through the rest of the page and went like: blink.gif at all the names. I rounded up to 200. I have maybe 20 so far?? I lost count. Basically I bought a mini box and am going to fill it, well around my Kensei sword hilt attempt replica/model. Inside the hilt will be one crane....a completely different color, along with the tiny rolled scrolls.

How is everyone else doing on their cranes?? biggrin.gif

I have to recount my cranes. My goal is 50 before I send any in, and I still need to work on my personal letter.

Having to cut my paper down to a square is a real set back and makes things a lot slower.

oh i'm awesome at making cranes! i might even have some origami paper lying around... while i don't think i have the time (or patience) to put together some cute packaging, i'd love to help! maybe after i make a bunch i can send it to one of you and they can be included in one of your cute packages. maybeh? i'd be happy to combine cranes with someone.

anyway, i'll get started with that.

edit: update-- ok it's been ten minutes... and i've made ONE WHOLE CRANE! then again, i spent some of that time finding my origami paper. this might take a while. perhaps i should enlist some of my (numerous) asian friends to help me. (i only say specificly asian friends because they are apparently born with the ability to make paper cranes. go figure.)
back to the cranes!

I'll give it a go but don't put me down on the List straight away as I need to work on my crane folding. Also, I'm in the UK so it might be worth folding a few to justify the airmail tongue.gif

Yeah, it takes awhile at first, but then you get faster. But it also doesn't help when you have to make all your paper into squares first before you fold, like myself dry.gif

Whenever you guys can, update on how many cranes you've made and/or sent in?
