(Nero Voiceover): Legends are not made...they are born, Arturius, from the day he was born, seemed almost pre-destined to be a great leader; to face seemingly overwhelming odds only to come out triumphant. After the Saxons fell to his legendary knights he unified the once divided lands forming a place of peace and honor. Continuing the tradition of knights, Arthur awarded the strongest, smartest, most honorable men to serve in his court.

The funny thing about legends is....they always have another chapter...

Chapter One: Wishes and Farewells
King Arthur’s Court, Round Table
IC: King Arthur, Bors, Galahad, Gawain

King Arthur stood before his most trusted men as they had gathered around the holy round table. He looked each of them square in the eye as he began his tale, bending over slightly, resting his hands upon the surface of the table.

“Knights... Brothers in arms... Your courage has been tested beyond all limits and have proven yourselves time and time again. This is why I am asking you to accompany me on this mission. The Lord God came to me in a dream and set before me a task of the utmost importance.” He paused and glanced around at each of them once more. Bors, Galahad, and Gawain knew what was in store. Any speech from Arthur that started off like this always meant sacrifice.

“He has instructed me to travel to Canterbury…there is a monastery there which holds the path for us to take…” He straightened himself up. “We search for the Holy Grail. The cup Jesus Christ used in the Last Supper. Men have searched for it since day one for its legend on bestowing eternal life upon whomever sip from its righteous rim. Men have become corrupt and obsessed…even to the point of murder. They will stop at nothing to get their hands upon it.”

“What makes us so different from them then?” asked Bors. He knew others were thinking the same. “If we are searching for it ourselves…”

Arthur turned to him. “We are not seeking it for self glory…but for the glory of God.”

“Your God, Arthur…” Gawain sat forward. “You ask us…some who do not even believe in God…” He gestured over at Nero. “Some who have no religion…” He gestured to Theodred. “Some who have embraced Roman Catholicism.” He gestured to Geoffrey. “And those few who have chosen to stick with their own gods.” He then gestured to the three original knights. “The only one remotely qualified is Aiden…” he said as he glanced over at the man.

“You speak the truth Gawain…” Arthur said. “But out of all my knights, I trust all of you the most and would want no others by my side. The fate of this quest is uncertain and death is always a possibility but I ask that all of you think about the matter. I leave tomorrow when the sun is high in the sky. I will wait in here for those who decide to join my quest.”

Nero laughed a bit at women who just introduced herself as Kiera. Shaking his head at her words "Ouch little kitty has claws" pushing himself from the wall, taking several glances around the room before following them. "A women alone with bunch of lonely men...could give the wrong impression" flashing her a slight grin. Although he wanted the wine he decided to allow it to sit which was probably for the best. These people were new to him which made their offerings more carefully observed.

"That's what I was thinking..." Aidan responded in kind to Nero's comment about the woman's place amongst so many men, and in that moment one could swear to see a hint of a smile on the Irishman's face. Most likely just a trick of the lighting, one would suppose.

Aidan took a seat, but not before saying a small and overly courteous "thank you and your fellows once more, for the feast and shelter in our journey here, Kiera."

Aidan looked over the food, not hungry, but to be courteous he took some food in a bowl to eat, relaxing into his seat despite still being in his riding gear. Aidan thought the best of people, especially devout people, an odd trait for someone who could be so cold and uncaring. But he was an odd man.

"Arthur, if it is not too much to ask, where might our travels take us next, beyond these..." Aidan paused and looked around, "humble walls?"

Kiera chuckled as she shook her head. "I'm not their leader nor they mine..." she said as Arthur turned to address the knight's question.

"I am to search for an inscription...mayhaps the men here know of it...or perhaps even our hostess..." Arthur glanced in the direction of Kiera.

The woman shrugged as she flashed a smile at the men. "Mayhaps I do...mayhaps I do not...but rest good sir knights...your journey will be a hard one. So eat up, drink up..." she glanced at Nero. "For tonight is your last night of innocence. Tomorrow the sun will rise...and with it...the shadows of the day."

She gave a slight nod and bow to the men before walking past Nero, glancing over his shoulder at the man before stopping next to Aiden and looked down upon him. "Hope you enjoy the lamb's heart stew..." she smirked and with that she left the men, the head monk following after her as the others stayed for the knights if they so wished to call upon their services.

"Was that wise? Speaking to them like that?" the head monk asked as Kiera made her way down the hall, her face now serious.

"What? With a hint of humor? Perhaps not...but they will need it for the harshness the world has in store for them..." she said and entered her chamber, the man remaining outside, then turned and left for the dining room once more.

As the man entered he bowed his head. "Apologies milords and ladies...Kiera arrived shortly before yourselves, spewing something about a quest for the Grail and a fellowship on a task...a mission...set out by God himself...we believe you are such the fellowship..."

He looked at the women with a surprised look on his face. He never believed in god so he thought it was all just crazy people talking sometimes. However when the mysterious women said that they had been expecting them and that it had been prophesised he did not know what to do

Nero rolled his eyes at the word "God" causing a slight stomach ache to begin. Moving towards Guinevere gently pulling her away and around the corner. Consulting Arthur about what he was thinking probably would have been for the best but Guinevere was easier to talk to at times. Releasing her hand he glances over at the others briefly before turning towards her.

"I dont know what you think about that new women Kiera..but I just find it strange ..."moving his eyes away from her and back to the knights. Maybe it was just the fact that he did not believe in a God which is the reason why he is mistrusting kiera's intentions.

Guinevere titled her head at the man set before him. "Get a hold of yourself milord...if she had other intentions, Galahad would have picked up on it wouldn't he not?" she glanced over at the man she spoke of who was sitting in his seat, watching Aidan eating his stew, disgusted. Arthur had seated himself on the other side, speaking with him in a low voice. Galahad looked at the man and shrugged, shaking his head.

"However, if we were meant to come here then there must be a reason...you agreed to accompany the king on this mission when you knew it was a religious quest. I cannot see how you would take something on faith considering you have none...but he is driven by it and in the end, his word is final..." she paused.

"Nero...I was there after he woke with his dream...it's as real as you and me whether you believe it or not....we are here for a reason. Something within these walls will spur on our search for the Grail."

Nero sighed as his eyes left hers " Your right Queen, please excuse me" the feeling in his stomach kicking up a bit. The smell of the food and the monestary slowly making him go crazy. Pushing open the door he makes his way out of the monk's home finally catching a breath of fresh air. Guinevere's words could always be warm...and cold at the same time. Looking up at the sky he shakes his head throwing his dagger into a nearby tree.

Guinevere nodded as he wished to be excused from the situation. As he left, she walked over to Arthur and leaned over, whispering into his ear. "The sooner we find what we are here for, the better...your knights are not at ease in a place like this...and I don't blame them...there's something going on here...something they are not telling us..." she glanced at Galahad. "You haven't sensed anything?" she asked as he shook his head.

"Not really no, although that Kiera woman is iffy..."

"In what way...." Arthur and Guinevere asked at the same time.

"She's veiling herself, her feelings...but she worries for all of us...for our lives..."

Kiera looked up from her seat in the courtyard as a man walked by, flinging his dagger at a nearby tree. "Now now...what did that pine ever do to you to deserve such treatment?" she asked as she put her book down.

Tilting her head at him and raised a brow "What vexes thee?"

Nero grinned walking over to the tree where his dagger rested "Honestly...this place...even you " his words cold but it was the truth. Plucking the dagger from the tree he sheeths it carefully avoiding the womens glances.

"Being in a place like this..only makes my stomach upset"his eyes finally resting apon hers "How did you know we were coming?" he asks hoping she could shine some light on the situation.

Aidan grumbled at the situation in dismay, finishing up his soup. It was good to know the next step in their journey, but the woman they had just encountered struck him on a sour note. As if the food wasn't bad enough, but it would be impolite not to finish.

"I suppose we gain nothing through suspicion and speculation, though we should keep our guard up at all times on this journey. The one true path lays fraught with danger, and tests. This may be one of those tests," Aidan said. "However, with that said, I think it is time, at least for I, to rest. I suppose if there is something here to drive us forward on our quest, God will show us the way..." Aidan trailed off.

King Arthur nodded. "We had a hard day of travel...rest if you wish. However..." Standing from his chair, he turned to the head monk. "I wish to see why exactly God brought us here...surely you know." he smiled out of politeness.

Guinevere smirked at her king and looked over the monks, the same thoughts ran through her mind as well.

Galahad stood from his chair, dabbing his mouth with the cloth that was provided.

The head monk looked from one to the other and nodded. "Right this way..." he said and exited the room, walking down a hall to a tapestry that draped over an entire wall. Pulling it aside it revealed a doorway with stairs.

"Why is it always a dark staircase?" Galahad said as he turned to Arthur who raised his hand for the man to become silent.

After grabbing a torch, he led the group down into the dankness of the room, revealing catacombs. "Within one of these...lays your clue..." he said as he handed the torch off to Arthur who shone it down the hall revealing many stone boxes...no doubt housing the remains of many knights and kings.

"Alright men...and ladies..." Arthur said as he glanced at Guinevere and Vixen. "Let's search."

"I..." she said as she stood. "Like you....am gifted." She walked over to him, looking deep into his eyes. "I did not wish to speak ill of his mission in front of him, but you must turn back." Glancing over her shoulder she turned back.

"I have seen....creatures...they seek the Grail as well, but for other purposes....this mission...holds nothing for you...but death..." she said.

Nero grinned spinning the dagger around his fingers before sliding it into its sheeth. Creatures that offered him death was something which caught his attention. "Well now that just makes me want to stay" smiling a bit before turning his back to her "Or maybe I should pray to this so called God to save me from those horrible creatures you speak of"

Kiera smiled and took a few steps after him, reaching out and placed a hand on his shoulder, turning him back around to her. As she touched him, however, she saw flashes and she gasped, taking a step back, blinking as she tried to recover.

She looked up at him and took a deep breath, about to speak, when suddenly the air grew cold, the two could see their breath as shivers went down their spines. Either from the cold, or the evil, eerie feeling that now hung in the air, one could not tell the difference.

Looking around them, Kiera turned, back facing Nero whose nostrils were filled with a foul stench beyond anything he could imagine. "They are here..." she managed to say as a shrilling shriek pierced the air, causing Kiera to cover her ears as she cried out in pain, blood dripping from them. With Nero's enhanced hearing, it affected him most.

Fluttering filled the skies as Coldness surrounded them, descending upon them. The ground shook as in the distance, Darkness sprang forth upon their fiery demonic steeds.

From within the monastery, Arthur turned as the shrieking got worse. Guinevere dropped her torch as she doubled over, clutching at her ears. Galahad screamed out as he collapsed as well. Arthur tried to take a few steps back towards the stairs but his head pounded so much, he couldn't...the ones outside were all alone. Arthur prayed they would only survive.

The screeching was enough to make his entire head want to explode as he dropped to his knees. Focusing his mind as much as he could on the horsemen making their way towards Kiera and himself. "Shut Up!" he screams lifting his dagger from its sheeth he hurls it into where the mouth should be within the dark cloak of the creature. The dagger successfuly shuts up the screetching allowing him to access his Pata which rested on his back. Swinging it towards the legs of the first rider to charge at him.

Kiera looked up at the creature Nero has wounded as it lost it's velocity and crashed to the ground. It writhed and shrieked but not as much as before. These shrieks were not meant to cause pain...but were being made BECAUSE of pain. It's sad excuse for a body smoked as it twitched and clawed at the ground. Narrowing her eyes at the thing she lifted her dress, taking a knife that she had tied to her leg and twirling it in her hands, bringing it down into the figure's head, twisting it as the shrieking stopped.

Glancing up at the rest, they looked at each other then back down at the two. Seeing that their job was complete anyway they gave off one final shriek and just disappeared in a black cloud. Kiera looked back down to see the defeated one no longer there, but the ground was scorched where it had laid, the knifes upon the ground.

The rider approaching them, whom Nero had swung at, drew his sword, bringing it down to meet with Nero's blade. Growling it flung itself from it's horse and onto the man, pinning him to the ground as it's teeth gnashed at him, saliva dripping from it's pointed teeth. It's eye sockets had nothing within them...they only held fear. As it's hands came in contact with Nero's throat, coldness engulfed him, filling every muscle within his body.

Kiera picked the knives up and narrowed her eyes at the second rider. Giving out a battle cry she dashed forward.

The creature had moved so fast pinning him to the ground its appearance simply sending a cold chill over his entire body. Slowly Nero's air began to leave his body before he felt his other hand grip a dagger which slipped out when he was tackled. Plunging the dagger into the creatures neck he flips it off, quickly making his way to his feet. Pulling back his Pata dropping it down across the creatures neck.

The creature Nero attacked tilted it's head at him as it's brow furrowed. It grinned evilly. Nero's blade resulted in no damage on the creature. It hissed at him and leaned forward, running a long nail across the man's cheek it began to speak in an old language, predating all languages...it not coherent nor understandable to Nero's ears, but whatever it said, it must have been a threat for it grinned, slicing it's nail down his cheek, drawing blood which it lifted it's finger to its mouth, tasting the liquid.

It turned to the other creature who had Kiera by the neck and shrieked at it. Turning it's head in the direction of the other, it dropped Kiera, her body crumpling to the floor and not moving. The two then mounted their horses and took off, the horses jumping over a fallen log and disappearing.

As the Theodred dropped to his knees through the pain Quiet he shouted hopeing that it would stop“What are we looking for exactly? why are you doing this? what are you" he struggled to say. when the sound had stopped. he used a nearby stick to help himself up and he began to think to himself what was it and what was happening he turned and looked at the remaining people there saying we need to get answers now this aint right!

Within the monastery, Aidan was in pain as all the rest were, his hands still covering his ears. The man shouted in pain, truly regretting having ditched his helmet before, which would have dampened the sound significantly, but you couldn't exactly eat in full regalia, now could you?

"What foul manner of test is this!?" Aidan asked, fighting through it and stumbling forward as his fingers snapped. Immediately an emerald flame burst from Aidan's right hand in a controlled manner, replacing the Guinevere's dropped torch for illumination. "We have to keep moving forward," he declared.

As the shrieking ceased, King Arthur slowly removed his hands from his ears, helping his queen to her feet. Galahad looked up as he narrowed his eyes past Aidan. The emerald glow was reflecting off a stone which lay close next to him.

"Do you see that?" Galahad said as he stood, going over to the stone. Turning to Aidan "Don't put that flame out..." he ran a hand over symbols carved upon the surface. "I searched this one and saw nothing...but your flame...has shown us the hidden..." he looked up at the knight, a grin across his face as he turned to Arthur. "He found it.....he found the first clue!"

Arthur came to their side as he wanted to see for himself. "I cannot read it..." he narrowed his eyes. Guinevere pushed past.

"Allow me milord..." she said as she gazed upon the characters. "It's Woad...." she said in disbelief.

Within the elements awaits your surprise.
To seek it you must use the Heaven's Eyes.

Galahad narrowed his eyes. "Heaven's Eyes? What the..."

Heaven's Eyes had been given a vision to travel to this particular monastery...at this point in time....driven by Divine intervention? Perhaps...but they had their Heaven's Eyes...it was among them...but would they recognize it?
