Internet Explorer 7 is really bad for me... FireFox is working GREAT!!!??? huh.gif

I think MicroSoft needs to completely re-design IE7, or come out with a better version, there are sooo many bugs in this browser!!!

FireFox is great though!

I'm not having problems, here or anywhere, with my Firefox version 2.0.0.2...

Assuming that your PC is up-to-date with Windows "Critical Updates" and your PC is also free of "malware/adware"... (Note: I'm also assuming you're using WinXP SP2)

Are you using the latest Firefox version (2.0.0.2)?

Are you using any Add-Ons (Extensions)?
If you are... see if running Firefox in "Firefox-SafeMode" eliminates the problems (click "Start/All Programs/Mozilla Firefox" and select "Mozilla Firefox (SafeMode)". More info "here"...

If the above is not the problem, you can find more info on Firefox crashes, "here". There's also a "Firefox Standard Diagnostic" page, "here".

(Note: this Add-On will also provide extra protection to your Firefox, "click here". More info, "here"...)

Out of curiosity, I also checked out this site with my "Inspiron 8000/WinXP Pro SP2" notebook and my granddaughter's "Dell XPS-T/Win98SE" Desktop computer, before (version 2.0.0.1 & version 1.5.0.9) and after installing Firefox 2.0.0.2 (with extensions) on both of them. There were no problems browsing this site, with both computers, using Firefox 2.0.0.2.

These are the "Firefox extensions" that I always use on all computers:
"UndoCloseTab"
"CookieCuller"
"Print"
"QuickNote"
"Tweak Network Settings"
"Download Manager Tweak"
"Image Zoom"
"Get Mail"
"NoScript"

I also use a few more extensions on my main computer (HP Pavilion a1357c/WinXP SP2 Media Center Edition):
"Print Preview"
"Brushed" - (Firefox Theme)
Since the author hasn't updated the "Brushed Theme" in awhile, I use the extension below to make it compatible with Firefox 2.0.0.2:
"MR Tech Local Install"

While none of our computers are having any problems with "Firefox 2.0.0.2"... I used the Goggle search-engine and found that many Firefox users are finding "version 2.0.0.2" kind of buggy ("click here").

Most of these users, that had problems with "Firefox 2.0.0.2", are returning to "Firefox version 2.0.0.1"… or at least until "version 2.0.0.3 Final" is released.
If you want to try "Firefox 2.0.0.1", you can download it from their archive ("click here").

THAT IS IT! IT IS THE SITE FOR SURE! i RAN MY FRESHLY INSTALLED FF2.0 IN SAFE MODE AND THE BROWSER STILL HANGED AND CRASHED MY PC WHEN BROWSING THIS SITE.

dry.gif MOST PROBABLY LIKE I SAID BEFORE IT'S GOT TO BE ONE OF THE SCRIPTS THAT DOES A FUNNY THING when it gets disabled.

I remeber having this identical problem when H_F transfered from the old IPB to the NEW IPB then some how got fixed when it transfered to the new server.

UPDATE : Travis, when did you implent the name-t####.html back again. I'm guessing this is the cause of the crash cause when the recent skin changes were applied.

On Mar 8 2007, 10:35 PM A few days till Today, 02:40 AM My Browser was doing Fine.

I never did update to Firefox 2.0... I went straight from "Firefox 1.5.x" to "Firefox 2.0.0.1".

Occasionally, I will check MozillaZine Forums to see what kind of problems Firefox users are encountering, before I upgrade to the next version (I do something similar for "Windows Updates", also).

This thread about "Firefox 2.0" ("click here") might be the reason I skipped "Firefox 2.0"... (CRS). The bugs were fixed, for most users, in "Firefox 2.0.0.1".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It seems that the author of the DOM Inspector extension has stopped support for the Firefox Windows version... it's listed ("click here") as supporting only a Thunderbird (mail client) Windows version... although this wouldn't be the problem if you're still crashing in "Firefox (SafeMode)".

Maybe "Firebug" ("click here") might be able to replace it?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The compatibility of your "Firewall" and "Antivirus" (with Firefox) can also affect your browsing experience.

In the past, I remember "Norton (Symantec) Internet Security Suite" and "McAfee Internet Security Suite" could cause Firefox to hang & freeze. Just disabling them was not enough to eliminate the problems, but uninstalling the suite did the trick...

This also happened to my younger son's "Dell Inspiron 6000/WinXP Pro SP2" during the 2005 Spring Semester and I switched him to his old subscription of "Panda Titanium Antivirus".
After awhile and a few bad Panda updates resulting with the same problems, my son ended up surfing the Internet with Panda disabled.
So, during the summer of 2006, I switched him to the free Avast Antivirus... which is on all of our computers, now.

My sister-in-law's new "HP notebook/WinXP Media Center" (I can't remember the model - CRS) was experiencing slow browsing with IE7... so I installed "Firefox 2.0.0.1 & my usual extensions" and the browsing speed was a lot quicker... but not as fast as my computer.
She noticed we use Avast and after finding out why, wanted me to install Avast for her... but couldn't leave her notebook with me (since Antivirus programs are really powerful, I need to be able to uninstall the old one completely... and that also means editing the registry).

There's also the "free Opera" I installed for her to try. It ran a little faster "on her system" than Firefox (but downloading files was still faster with Firefox)... so it's now what she prefers to use.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also disable WinXP's Firewall and install the free "ZoneAlarm Firewall" (presently, we use version 6.1.737.000) on all the computers I work on (friends & relatives).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We also use ("SpywareBlaster") to help prevent against the installation of spyware and other potentially unwanted software...

DOM & FIREBUG are developer tools and i Fail to see how it would help cause I'm NOT that of a coder.

I have Norton and ZoneAlarm So you think it's NORTON? cause sometimes ZA usually shuts my Connection and I have to restart it back up.

Why need a SpywareBlaster when you have ZA already?

I assumed, from what you previously posted, that you have the "DOM Inspector extension" installed in "Firefox 2.0". Any extension, not compatible with a version of Firefox, can cause problems and uninstalling that extension might help...

If you don't have the "DOM Inspector extension" installed in Firefox, then I incorrectly interpreted what you've posted...

If I remember correctly, a "Firefox 2.0 user" also mentioned (in the "Firefox 2.0 thread" I previously linked to) that uninstalling the "TalkBack extension" (in that version) solved his/her problems...

QUOTE((Red @ Mar 12 2007 @ 11:45 AM) )

From what I've previously encountered, I'm "guessing" that there's a chance that Norton's might be the culprit. The only way to find out if Norton's is the cause of problems with "Firefox 2.0"... is to uninstall it. (I’m not sure if creating a restore point in System Restore, before uninstalling, will allow you to restore it... if it's not the problem)

But I would try "Firefox version 2.0.0.1", first (before uninstalling Norton's)... since many "Firefox 2.0 users" said that updating to "Firefox version 2.0.0.1" solved their problems.

QUOTE((Red @ Mar 12 2007 @ 11:45 AM) )

You want to be using only one firewall to avoid conflicts...

Do you have the firewall in WinXP disabled? (Click "Start/Run" and type
services.msc click "OK" and scroll down to "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)". Right-click on it and select "Properties". If it's started, click "stop", change the "Startup type:" to "Disabled" and click "Apply, OK")

Is your Norton's the "Norton Internet Security" version? If it is, you might want to remove/uninstall the "Norton Personal Firewall" from "Add/Remove Programs" in "Control Panel", also.

Certain versions of ZoneAlarm have also had problems with certain versions of Firefox, in the past...
What version of ZoneAlarm are you using?

QUOTE((Red @ Mar 12 2007 @ 11:45 AM) )
Why need a SpywareBlaster when you have ZA already?
ZoneAlarm protects your Network "ports"...

SpywareBlaster will protect your browser from future infection by immunizing your system. Your Internet Explorer (sometimes you might need to use it) will gain the most protection with SpywareBlaster, but it also has protection for Firefox....

There's an old tutorial for SpywareBlaster, "here".

There's more helpful info "here" and "here".

Win2k Laptop Compaq
ZA = 6.5.737.00
Symantec Anti-Virus 9.02.1000
Akule50

I didn't find any posts mentioning any problems with "Symantec Anti-Virus 9.02.1000"...

But, I found a whole bunch of posts with "ZoneAlarm 6.5 & up" users that had various problems ("Firefox 2.x" problems, also) and the cause was their ZoneAlarm. Many of them were reverting to "ZoneAlarm 6.1.744.001" ("click here" and scroll down to the "6.1 Branch" section).

Many have also switched to the "Free Comodo Personal Firewall" (Review: "click here" / Download: "click here") or the old "2.1.5 version" of the free "Kerio Personal Firewall" ("click here" and scroll down to the 3rd post for more info and download links).

If you want to check to see if ZoneAlarm is actually the cause of your problems... see if selecting "Shutdown ZoneAlarm" from the icon in the Systray is enough (instead of uninstalling) and then browse this site...

There are instructions for a "Clean Uninstall" of ZoneAlarm, "here". In the past, I've done this differently... but the process of the instructions I linked to, is easier.

I haven't used Win2000 in quite awhile and right now I don't really have the time to install "Win2000 Pro SP4" on my test hard-drive to check out the problem. So if the above isn't the problem, it's fairly difficult to troubleshoot without being "hands-on"...

Yeah! Many users are having problems with IE7... including my sister-in-law. She left the configuration of her WinXP "Automatic Updates" on default and got upgraded to IE7 "automatically". I prefer turning off the Windows "Automatic Updates" and I update our systems manually...

I don't have any problems with the "Adobe Flash Player Version 9.0.28.0", "Firefox 2.0.0.2" and the version of ZoneAlarm (6.1.737.000) that I use...

Thanks for ALL the Help, I uninstalled ZA and using Comodo. I kept Norton.
I'm huessing it's one of the Ad Scripts that Is causing it. I remember before something starts with an e??

Anyways I remeber It has something to do with the site cause I had the same settings before It caused the same problems but it dissapeared after some upgrades, AFTER that when Viewing and Moderating H-F and G-H. Only G-H site was crashing my systems. BUT the H_F wasn't giving me any problem even up to NOW I can still browse the site witout crashing Just some Links that I can't even go in to. BUT STILL won't crash my PC & Browser.

Also it may have something to do with Scrolling the site down. Usually IF I just scroll up & down multiple times it would crash my systems. Even Now I can notice using the scrolling would studder in this site.

I did that with other PC's with IE7, and I would notice it would hang a bit and would go back to Normal. Mine Doesn't and sometimes It will Make my Video go to screen saver mode that I couldn't turn my monitor on No matter what button I pressed and Pixels would just go Berzerk.

QUOTE(Red)

Most of the sites I browse, the "NoScript extension" for Firefox only partially allows scripts... including this site. Right now, when I browse this site with Firefox, NoScript is only allowing access to "http://www.got-heroes.com". Statcounter.com, Overture.com isn’t allowed.

QUOTE(Red)

I remember having a similar problem with my granddaughter's computer, a few years ago... the stuttering and occasional lockups were caused by a "Logitech wireless combo (mouse & keyboard) updated driver" which conflicted with an "ATi Radeon video card" driver update. I reinstalled the previous Logitech driver to solve it. Logitech drivers are really buggy, sometimes...

QUOTE(Red)

What "video adapter" (check "Device Manager) and "Compaq notebook model" do you have?
There might be a driver or BIOS update that deals with this issue...

QUOTE(Red)
No matter what button I pressed and Pixels would just go Berzerk.

Did you just update your video driver?

If you've had the notebook for more than a year... when was the last time you cleaned out the vents?

A lot of times, when the video goes crazy with pixelation, this is a sign of the "video card/system" overheating.

If you've noticed the number "31" listed in my Systray (from the graphic in my last post), it's a sensor monitor utility that is reading the CPU temperature in centigrade. The utility also reads the other hardware sensors, if available. I usually use the "I8kfanGUI" utility ("click here") for notebooks and if that's not compatible... I use the "Speedfan" utility ("click here"). There are others, like "Notebook Hardware Control", that I haven't gotten around to trying, yet.

If your vents are on the bottom of your notebook... you can restrict the airflow if you use the notebook directly on the bed (even worse with most blankets). This will slow down the air circulation and may cause overheating, since the heat won't be effectively dissipated. Notebooks with vents on the bottom should be used with a notebook pad or on some kind of flat solid surface...

Overheating can also cause your system to slow-down/lock-up or shut-off (if really hot)...

Aloha,
Rod

I decided to try browsing this site, again, with my "Inspiron 8000 Notebook (700MHz Mobile Pentium 3 & 384MB RAM)" and I "think" I might have just went through what you were trying to explain...

I immediately, after accessing this site, had problems using my "Touch-Pad" to scroll up & down. It was stuttering & hanging (couldn't keep up with my "Touchpad" movements). So, I opened WinXP's "Task Manager" (using the "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" combo) and saw that the "CPU Usage" was pegged at 100%.

Then I clicked on the "Processes" tab and saw that "firefox.exe" was also pegged at 100%, when I tried to scroll this site. (Note: I don't remember if Win2k's "Task Manager" has a "Processes" tab... if not, you can download and use "Process Explorer".)

I vaguely remembered something similar (100% CPU usage) with an older version of Firefox and the Adobe Flash Player... but I already had the latest Adobe Flash Player installed on the I8k.

Then I decided to try uninstalling some extensions. I uninstalled the "Talkback 2.0.0.2" extension and the stuttering & hanging was a little less... uninstalled the "Image Zoom" & "NoScript" extensions and it even got better...

Then I clicked on "your profile" (clicked different profiles, before) and the stuttering & hanging was "worse" than when I first came to this site with the I-8000! (What's the reason!.. ohmy.gif wink.gif)

Then I installed the "MR Tech Local Install" extension and the stuttering & hanging was gone... but the "CPU usage" was still 100% with "firefox.exe". So, I uninstalled it and resumed stuttering & hanging...

Then I realized I hadn't updated the "Java Software" in awhile (on the I8k). So I updated it ("click here") and the stuttering & hanging was gone... "CPU usage" was still on the high side, but at least it wasn't pegged at 100%, anymore!

I don't know why I didn't experience it the first time I browsed this site, just after installing "Firefox 2.0.0.2" on the I-8000... but I'm pretty certain the reason why I didn't experience this on my main computer was probably because it has a much faster dual-core processor (CPU) and 2GB RAM.

I now agree with you, also! Since Firefox is using a lot of resources (on only this site), there probably is a bug in the coding of this site, somewhere...
