Hey All,
I wish I had good news to report to you this morning about the Season Premiere's ratings, but unfortunately I don't.

Last night's premiere was down 25% from Season 2's Premiere episode and the second episode dropped even further. Less than 10 Million people tuned in and it seems like the show took a much bigger hit than expected from a poor second season and the writer's strike.

Of course before we say this is the beginning of the end, there are few things that must be noted. Ratings for MOST shows has been on a steady decline for the last couple of seasons and all have lost viewers to DVR and Internet Downloading.

Additionally, last night's premiere was up against some stiff competition and with so many shows now on TV, Heroes like LOST is one of the most watched "Time Shifted" (DVR/Tivo) shows on today.

Also, Fringe Fox's new SciFi hit also received a similar rating and the critics are calling it the best new show on TV. So don't jump ship yet. Go out and tell your friends to make sure they watch!

reptar got a power
Seeing as it has been a while since Heroes aired a new episode, people aren't really going to be that into it. I believe if we give it some time, Heroes will be back on top. Because the die-hard fans will be behind it, and there's enough of us to boost the ratings. smile.gif

d***, how disappointing! I was expecting it to be very big. I was hoping that red carpet special would really build a lot more buzz and entice a new audience, but I guess not. I hope ratings improve. I was afraid of this.
The Rey
I don't really care about the ratings, it will go up after how well the show started. o_o

D:! That's so depressing, especially considering the quality of the show.

But I know a lot of people that couldn't watch it because of homework .. or they were at someone's house, haha. But they watch it online after.

Now I feel bad watching stuff online =/

this doesnt bother me that much.. but i think it was season 2 that let it down a bit. in my opinion it wasnt great but the new episodes for season 3 are IMENSE !!!!

Hisuka

Haha I thought the same thing when I saw the ratings, but I'm worse because I post them :\...The promo's and everything for Heroes got me pumped so hopefully people will talk and get them to watch Heroes.

The only downside is that on Mondays, every network has a big show on at the same time. Abc has Dancing with the Stars. Cbs has Two and a Half Men. Fox has Prison Break. Cw has One Tree Hill...etc...it's a big battle and so far ABC will win it until their season is over.

Well you also have to realize 10 million viewers isn't too shabby either, it's just when compared to the very anticipated premier of season 2 , yeah of course it's not going to hold a big candle, but this season premier kicked last season's premiers A$$!!! I don't think anyone will argue that point with me, and it's up to us the fans to get a good word of mouth out to ppl.
Map029
It might have been down from last season, but it's still a top watch show for NBC, so I have no worries with the ratings system. Hell chuck got about 6 million viewers its first season and it is getting a 2nd one.

That might hold true if all shows cost the same in terms of production, but reality is that Heroes is an expensive show due to all the special effects and the big ensemble cast, so "ok" ratings won't really cut it with NBC. If the ratings don't bounce back to 12-14 million viewers, chances are this'll be Heroes' last season. sad.gif

D: I will get mad at america if Heroes doesnt come in first.
The quality of Heroes is so much greater than those other shows, esp One Tree hill, though i am guilty of being addicted to Gossip Girl .. xD

But yeah if they cant see the quality, amazing effects, amazing story line, surprises, speculation, etc ..

GRR.

as many have pointed out the episodes were great despite some potential plot holes which are normal with time travel related shows...

also as travis pointed out and i put in my report the competition is crazy on that night...plus factor in about 2-3 million who watch it via dvr or online then....PLUS...the intl fans...the fan base is strong...

but unfortunately it is not about the fan base but the dollars...which are all determined on ratings numbers which translate to eyes that watch ads....and then the money...

some of the folks i have spoke to have said as long as the ratings do NOT dip below 7-8 million it should be ok....

so even if you Dload it make sure you guys still watch it on NBC and tell your friends... smile.gif

The finals are out!

It went from 9.89 million to 10.09 million, and from a 4.9 to 5.0 in the demo.

No need to panic, yet. While these are not amazing numbers, the demo is still EXTREMELY strong, and it's the demo that NBC mainly cares about.

10 mil is awesome. Somehow I wish they hadn't had three hours premier...and Butterfly Effect should've been Episode 1. That episode rocked! biggrin.gif

The Office and Ugly Betty have way below 10 million and they're still running and a critic fave. So I'm Hopeful.

heroes is the best tv show, and it devers the best ratings!!
Ænigma
Not to mention that it still has not premiered across seas, which should boost the rating even more, if they could premier them the same night things would be much easier.

it is stupid that people still talk about ratings.....worse that networks base their continuation of shows on the failure called Nielson.

The rating system doesnt take into effect downloads/torrents (not traceable, but should count somehow) and the streaming services such as Hulu. Add onto that Dvr and tivo, and you have who knows how many more millions of viewrs or people interested in the show.

The entire system is flawed and needs to be changed, or just disregarded. And its surely sad to see shows get canceled based on ratings.

dvr is now taken into consideration but is added in a couple of weeks later....

heroes typically adds about 2-3 million more viewers via DVR, but it will be interesting to see how it works...

the system might be flawed, but at the end of the day it is all about $$ to them...that is why there was a strike in the first place...nielsen is based on the number of eyes that "supposedly" view ads...then networks can sell ad time to potential companies for revenue, which is directly used for production...luckily...the intl. viewers and heroes online content play a big role now in bringing more eyes to the network....sooo...def. not a time to panic, but always good to be aware of what is going on....at the end of the day....the more streaming and dloading is advertised via our forums and sites...the less ad revenue, thus the problem....similar to the chicken v the egg....

yes i know the nieslen system itself is flawed, but that is what they use....

any way it is all good for now...but i can guarantee you, NBC, like all of us was expecting higher numbers....you can check out all the media stories of how it was a big disappointment or failure...

hopefully the fact the epis were great will bring more viewers back... smile.gif

What I hate is the media. Now before the total ratings including DVR and all that comes out, they cry out "Heroes fails" "Heroes sucks" and all that and make such a big d*** issue, and when Heroes acutally has higher ratings later with the totals, they don't shout out "We're wrong, Heroes is doing good". They just state and nobody notices it.

By The Way, Heroes broke the Guinness World Record for the most downloaded show in history. Take that, people who think Heroes is going the drain!

It's only just started.
Wait til it airs worldwide.
SandmanX
It just took off so I don't expect a sudden ratings explosion. I don't think any of us loyal fans from season 1 even give two flying hoots about ratings too.

The new season is looking fantastic and that's that. I'm confident it'll take off once the rest of the world airs the first two episodes and catches on just like the earlier seasons.

I live in Singapore (South-east Asia) myself and we only recently wrapped up season two on free-to-air TV but most of the fans here watch it streaming online so the cast members received a thunderous welcome (season one wasn't even aired yet at that point) nonetheless during their world tour.
