Full Version: Johnathan Ross and Russell Brand

The Crowing
Ok, im gunna' go ahead and say it, i thought it was hilarious. When Ross shouted what everyone knows he shouted i was in tears with luaghter. Although maybe it did go a bit far, that was basically the only offensive thing said. I think people have taken the whole thing out of context.

The media have jumped at the opportunity to slate Russel Brand (nothing new there) and the public has just jumped on the "band-wagon". I bet half the people who complained haven't even heard the recording. Also, the fact that Russel resigned is a sad one because i find him really funny.

Is the world really such a boring place to the point that so many people have made such a big deal over a prank phone call?

i know i can't watch 5 minutes of tv without hearing someone talk about it dry.gif . i didn't actually hear it but i'm sad russel has resigned. i heard that there weren't that many complaints after it aired then it just started a domino effect. god even gordon brown is getting involved, like.... shouldn't he be working on getting us out of the credit crunch or something ?

I like how you didn't repeat what they said, This is got-heroes joker It can be said here.

It has about 20.000 complaints now or is it million? If it is million there is no way that many people were listening.

lol no, just 30,000 complaints. A million's a bit high

Too be honest, I thought it was hilarious when I heard it, but they deserve everything that's coming to them. I mean, most people in my school (even one of my friends who used to LOVE Russel Brand) hold the same view

I don't think that for most things it would be too serious (I've made far too many prank calls to judge them) but they are high-profile celebrities, so Britain is gonna take a hard line to keep its image or whatever

And Gordon Brown rescuing us from the credit crunch? Please, that man can't control and discipline himself enough to stop picking his nose in the House of Commons let alone control and discipline himself to save us from the credit crunch

I thought it was really funny when I first heard it because I suppose you forget that there's an actual person on the end of the answer machine and I agree, they did deserve it. I didn't realise at the time that so many people could find it offensive and yes it has been taken out of total context. The fact that Gordon Brown has started to comment of it makes me laugh as there is seriously nothing happening in the world apart from US elections, this thing and something about a cockrel which was on bbc news the other day huh.gif When it first came on the news it was only like 1000 complaints or something like that. Now people have probably gone and listened to it on youtube and decide that it was offensive and complained.

To be fair Gordon Brown Is an excellent politician, He might not have the charisma like Tony Blair to Give speeches and what not But he knows his stuff and is cleaning up a mess that Labour has built over many years now and If there is anything he could do it is this, He was Chancellor of the Excheckor before and did a fine job. If all other countries struggle and he pulls us out of it you wouldn't say that.

Show some respect please. wink.gif

I haven't heard the phone call but gather from what I've heard that people are over-reacting and it has been taken out of context. Has anyone got a linky link of the recording?

I take it Russell just resigned from the BBC, not TV in general? That's a big shame. Loved his radio show. I also hear that Ross has been suspended for 3 months? Damn, was looking forward to his interview with Miley Cyrus tomorrow! angry.gif rolleyes.gif

Tbh Brand sees himself as a bit of a shock jock,.... so I'm glad to see him get his comupance. Personally I don't find the guy funny. They're is much better comedians than him around.

Wow, sounds like I touched a nerve there sleep.gif. I was joking. I don't envy Gordon Brown his job at all, and I think that with the economy the current state it's in, the PM's role is more difficult than ever. But as someone living in the UK, I tend to make fun of the PM (as almost everyone I know does)

Anyway, I'll get back on topic. I never really watched any Russel Brand, so it's not too big a deal for me

Oh my god, I'm so sick of this thing getting more media coverage than it even deserves. It's absolutely ridiculous, I mean a couple of grown men making prank calls to someone is actually worthy of Gordon Brown stepping in? Sometimes I despair for the human race, I really do.

Nobody can be funny on British TV any more without being shot down by a few nitpickers who spread their pointless complains then escalate the situation.
Similarly Jeremy Clarkson received many complaints about his comments on Top Gear that truck drivers murder prostitutes. Yeah, out of context it is not funny but it's banter.
This place is so politically correct these days that the only thing we'll be able to get away with is laughing at paint dry. :|
Saviour
And the complainers are more than likely the types of people who laugh at paint dry. Either that or they're curtain twitchers, and spy on their neighbours at all hours of day and night just so that they can have something to fill their empty lives with. Seriously, political correctness is gonna run this world to the ground.

It's hardly the most pressing issue in the world today. I don't think starving, thirsty, AIDS-ridden children in Africa are particularly concered with Russell Brand quitting the BBC and Johnathon Ross getting suspended. I reckon war and capitalism will destroy the world before PC does. Either that or the black-hole machine. I wonder what happened with that...
Saviour
My point exactly. It looks like all that nonsense's died down now, though. Thanks to some actual news dominating the headlines this week with the elections.

I fail to see how what I said was your point exactly. I was disproving it. Yeah, it has died down but not enough, IMO, even with the elections. It's got a while yet. It's still in some news.

I was talking about this part;

My original point in my first post, if it wasn't clear enough, was that there are more important things to worry about in this world and for Gordon Brown to occupy himself with than jumping into something that shouldn't even be an issue. And the bit about PC taking over the world was more of an offhand comment, nothing that really constitutes it being worthy of disproving.

Ok, I think I get what you're trying to get across a bit more now. smile.gif

Sorry, I was trying to do a million things at once when I posted that .tongue.gif

It was pretty ridiculous, eh? What I found funny is there was, what, 2 (TWO)? complaints for like a week after it was aired then as soon as 'the media' caught on the complaints started to roll in. It probably should not of been aired in the first place, was a joke (not their best) and was definitely not 'the media's' place to 'brand' it offensive. In my opinion the only person who could deem it so was Andrew Sachs and he could've pushed charges if he felt it was appropriate. No one was forced to listen in and they're both notorious for their type for humour... probably why there was but a few complaints days after it was aired.

Struggling to find it on youtube with all the previous stuff, before the call... they were saying stuff about the media which I cannot recollect now. When listening initially it seemed like 'the media' was giving them the finger partly for that reason, 'flexing' their muscle so to speak.

The whole prank call can be found: here

That's all I can find on youtube now but there was more to it, at least two minutes of Ross and Brand speaking to one another before they made the call. rolleyes.gif

Sure I will! tongue.gif

It was relevant to my opinion though, them ridiculing the media in some such way... wish I could remember what was said!
