Might not seem relevant now that Peter is powerless but i was thinking about this before. Why does Peter actually have the hunger? Given the fact that it is unnatural and was provoked (in Gabriel's case).
One could argue that because he absorbed it from Gabriel he got the "malfunctioning" version, maybe.
I dunno, what you guys think?

We can't really speculate too much as we don't properly know what caused the hunger but this kinda confirms Peter's power being truly empathic.
It seems that he's mimicked the hunger, too, because he feels what Gabriel feels, not just mimics the original power through proximity and then just finds it easier to think about the person because he's that kinda guy.

Great question. I agree on the empathy reasoning. Maybe we'll have more answers after the episode tonight.

Mohinder says Peter's DNA re sequences itself to mimic who he's around. He's so connected, he literally copies a part of them.
If he's correct (don't know, obviously), he'll get abilities exactly where they're at from the original person, function, side effects and all. He also wouldn't need to know the person to use the ability, like we saw in S2, but it would help him control it.
It's likely F_Peter this season is the person who healed Nathan. Whether or not he is aware of it, he probably picked up Linderman's.
Sylar's hunger was unnaturally pushed when he was gaining control over it, but it's probably still a hand and hand thing with this ability, just not so intense so fast. An ability to know how things work would be pointless if you didn't have the drive to obtain knowledge. He clubbed Brian Davis before the Company interfered.

Nathan is the Best character of Heroes Show...
Great contribution to the topic under discussion there.

You answered your own question mate,.... hes connecting to Gabriels provoked hunger. Gabriel obviously had his in check, but Peter has no clue how to suppress it like Gabriel. You would think Peter would have asked Gabriel how he was suppressing it, as it would have been useful information. The reason being that he might have to use the same suppressor as him. But this all hinges on whether Arthur missed it,.... as that whole hunger episode for Peter could simply be a ploy by the writers for Peter to understand his brother and sympathise with him.

Well, we know now that the Hunger wasn't unnaturally provoked, so, it's perfectly reasonable for Peter to absorb that part of the power, too.
