Full Version: Taking the killer out of sylar a bad or good thing?
Got Heroes > Heroes: Episode Discussion > Season Three > Volume Three: Villains > 3x09 - "It's Coming"
Gabriel Petrelli
Personally my favourite part of heroes is hearing the clocks in the background tic toc away and sylar takes the head off his victim, now that we know Sylar is just like peter is that a good thing or bad thing?

Just like to hear your thoughts smile.gif

I think he's a more heroic figure than Peter for being a 'baddie in recovery'.
He might still fall off the wagon.
Or the clock ticking noise could return as he triumphantly figures stuff out?
Or Peter could get it as he learns to use his brain.
Hero2012
acting wise its a bad thing, he doesnt seem to be on his top acting game now that he's a 'good' guy...
I prefer his acting as in season 1...

All you need is a dead girlfriend, or something. Sylar turns his back on rehab..

Peter: Gabriel, don't do this, you don't have to kill.
Sylar: True, but understanding how someone works is just too tedious as compared to checking things out directly.
*ticking music*
*3rd party whom Peter is trying to prevent getting killed get Sylar'd while Peter watches helpless*
Sylar: You're lucky, Pete, if you weren't my brother...
*turns and leaves*

My hope is that they make Sylar a very good guy only to let him drop down to true villainhood after something terrible happens to him (eg Elle gets killed).

I DONT WANT ELLE TO DIE!!! sad.gif

but i think its inevitable. Sylar's reaction will be good to watch.

But still, THEY SHOULD KILL CLAIRE INSTEAD!!!

but we know they dont, coz of the volume 4 pics.

d***.

Honestly, I'm not so sure if Gabriel will turn evil again. Yes, it's possible, but, in the future episode, he wasn't And yes. I know, the future can be or is already changed, but we still saw, there were things, that didn't change, no matter what future we saw.
What I'm really wondering about is more the point: Why does Arthur take Peter's abilities, like he wasn't his son und "keep" Gabriel at his side. I mean, he knows gabriel did save Peter and that Gabriel wants to be a good person. There has to be a reason why Gabriel and not Peter. And if it's right, that Gabriel just "plays" to be on Arthur's side, than Arthur knows that also. So why keeping this son so close then while getting rid of the other son?

Edit: I totally forgot to say... I like the new Sylar/Gabriel. He is good but still feels like "you don't know everything about him and he surprised you so many times so he can do so again" wink.gif

I'm tired of Sylar... The whole "no, you're a good guy, it's a hunger.", just really doesn't work.
He was better as a bad guy and should of died in Season 1. Would have been a great ending for him.

as much as i loved sylar's bad a** head slicing, it would have become too alike to have him kill again and again so i reckon it was good to take his charater onto a different level. also with 'good' Sylar you get to see him interact with a lot more characters then usual. saying that i do hope at one point he goes back to being bad tongue.gif

I don't like that whole "hunger"-thing. He didn't suddenly stop killing when he was stripped off his powers (which should have included his hunger). Instead he had even more hunger to get his powers back and he killed more than once without the reason to feed his "hunger" in season 2. I liked him then and I very much liked him in season 1. I still like him now, but it's just not the same. Now I only like him for what he has been and not for what he is right now. Except that he is still a very good actor.
In my opinion, this "hunger" is just a sorry excuse for not killing him off one more season. There would have been so much better ways to accomplish this...

Stupd "hunger"! blink.gif

I like this change in Sylar and how's he trying his best to be good even when he still kills. It would have boring just to have Sylar carrying on his killings I mean how many times can you see a head sawing and get bored of it? It's a good change so far.
My_Name_Is_Sylar!
I think it's a bad thing in the way it was handled.

I have to agree. People may claim that having Gabriel becoming good is absurd, but at the end of the day people don't remain the same through life. Events change us and make us,.... and tbh revealing him as connected to Petrellis is a perfect plot device for having him good for the time being.

But mark these words,... Gabriel will take on the role of Sylar before Heroes runs it course. No doubt with both a bilblical and titanic showdown with brother Pete.

It wouldn't suprise me if they actually used the biblical line when this showdown does happen as they like replicating scenes.
Angor
Well, they already showed that Gabriel is ready to wreak havoc if someone he loves dies. So that would by now be the only plausible reason for me to let him go bad again. But Elle would have to die, so I'm a little bit uncertain if I want that to happen. I like the way her storyline goes.

No, not uncertain at all. Elle shouldn't die.

I like how they're adding depth to Sylar's character with his whole redemption thing but I preferred him as a psychopathic killer... he was just.. so cool cool.gif

When you hear the clocks ticking and you see him pop up it just sends chills because you know someones gonna die and hes such a scary character...

I think we all fell in love with him in season 1 because hes such a badass and just a very scary villain.

I don't mind a morally grey Sylar. Zachary Quinto is a good enough actor to make me believe anything. He reminds me of Spike or Angelus on Buffy. They are perfectly good as good or neutral guys...but EXCELLENT as bad guys!

*SIGH* I do miss the greatest villian on tv however. When he himself was responsible for his own actions based on his need to be special, his mother issues. When the hunger was a psychological condition he himself created out of the need to be the most special one of all, and not an aspect of his power he cannot control. In his mind, he had formed his own evolutionary reasons in his mind for murder. "Evolution is a part of nature and nature kills....right?" I dislike that Sylar is not responsible for his own actions. I cannot stand that Elle and HRG made him "snap" so to speak.

I miss the Sylar who quipped "Murder." to Dale. Almost pissed my pants with that one.

And of course, him flinging himself at the glass and roaring, "MY NAME IS SYLAR!!!" I flung myself back in my seat when he did that. I actually got chills. I've NEVER done that in any tv show.

Gee, maybe it is a bad thing. rolleyes.gif I'll stil watch to see Zachary Quinto's fine acting.

I think having Gabriel good is a terrific choice and, as it is now, I think it's really good for his character but the more I like him as a good guy, the harder it's gonna be convincing me fully when he turns back evil. One complete life transforming change is believable just but no-one can swing from end to end of the scale that much in a life-time without it being cheap and rushed. As Gibby said, it's inevitable that he'll turn evil again but I hope they handle it well.
