Producers get paranoid when stuff like this happens. Not all viewers are dedicated fans. Not all viewers necessarily are members of forums and love to talk endlessly about the show. Not all viewers see the importance of ratings when it comes to keeping a show on the air, therefore not lending their viewership each week. And the demographic of the casual viewership might not go out and buy the DVD simply because they feel it's a one time thing. The producers and the network are afraid their ratings will drop if the episode gets leaked due to viewers who get their hands on the episode and not feel the need to watch it on the night it airs.
Me, personally, I don't mind reading some spoilers just to tide me over the long hiatus. Pre-air releases I have a problem watching. Of course even if I did decide to download the leaked episode, I would watch it when it aired on television, but knowing what happens before then just ruins the experience for me.
Well spoken, I do read some spoilers in fact I'm usually the one to post them but I am completely against downloading the episode before it airs. I know that some who watch the episode will watch it when it airs but many will not and that will affect the ratings also with those who watch the episodes the actual details of the episode is then leaked and they become hard to avoid. I like spoilers but I like spoilers that provide just enough information to leave room for me to speculate, other than that is too much and ruins the show for me
