Anyone watch the OC? It used to be my favorite show and bought the first two seasons on DVD but I kind of regret doing so now since the show has just completely ruined itself

I was watching the pilot episode the other day and got so sad, thinking, "It used to be so good. What happened?"

I was a big fan of the show (it was a guilty pleasure). Seriously, I think the show started going downhill after the first season...even late into the first season. I loved the show when we saw how Ryan dealt with this massive culture clash and how his old life would creep into his new life. That was good stuff!
Eventually, they just started recycling stories. Ryan and Marissa together, then apart, then together again. Seth just got into goofy situations. Summer was always cool. Marissa eventually just annoyed the hell outta me after awhile.
And they got rid of Anna!!

yes the recycling of stories did it for me

It's so sad how badly the writing for the show got the first two seasons are okay the first far better then the second but the third and fourth seasons are kind of difficult to watch. The bad writing was especially evident through the badly written season premieres. For example, for the second and third seasons all the conflicts from the season finale were dealt with so quickly and badly too, like the whole Trey in a coma deal

What ever happened to the mysterious baby? Did they ever resolve that or was that left floating in the wind too?
Grrr...show had so much potential...

There have been a lot of storylines that have been brought up but that the writers failed to pursue, like Kirsten aborted her baby

its ashame that show could have gone far with good writers

Jan 23 2007, 06:42 PM
I don't think the writers are necessarily bad, I think they just got a little lazy and didn't take the show in a direction that would have done far better
melody
Jan 26 2007, 01:03 PM
no the writers arent bad, they just arent amazing...as we see, they didnt see the bigger picture as you explain above, taking the show in a better direction

Jan 27 2007, 12:16 PM
Yeah and the show doesn't have the same kind of feel that it did in the first 2 seasons, this season it seems like all they're going for is laughs

By the way I just have a question for anyone that knows but when did Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody break up? It's not really surprising since on screen the chemistry between Summer and Seth has been off

I used to love OC but than S2 kinda sucked and I decided let me watch S3 maybe it will be better. Well it was kinda boring half the times I wasn't paying attention. It didn't get good in S3 in my opinion until like the last 3 S3 eppy's.
Than i started to watch S4 and it wasn't intresting me so I stopped watching it and now watch "Grey's Anatomy" in away I am not surprised OC was axed I kinda knew it may be after the whole Marissa thing. But I did feel badly when I heard it was axed even though it did not surprise me. I signed petition to save but I doubt they will work it didn't when I signed them for "North Shore" "Reunion" Tru Calling"" Pepper Dennis" and "Related" . If it works for OC that will be a first.

Just had to bring this topic back from the dead as I was watching an episode on Soap Net yesterday, the one where Trey steals the egg from Risky Business and they have to get it back in time for the charity auction. Then I decided to pop in the DVD and watched my favorite episode from the last season, "The Chrismukk-huh?" haha love that episode!!!

This used to be one of my favorite shows and was up until it's final episode. I always enjoyed watching it, and was terribly sad to see it go. Haven't watched it since, I wish it had never ended though, it was good t.v.
