If Nathan won by landslide , why is not in congress????

Oh gee, I dunno?

Maybe because he knows he didn't win fair and square? Maybe because he knows that his winning was just part of a plot involving his mother, who he now knows isn't the nicest of characters, to let millions of people die? Maybe because he's so stricken with grief at the loss of his brother that he can't function properly?

Obviously he is too guilt stricken to hold office, and as he knows (Assuming) he thinks peter is dead.

He probably resigned. I wonder how he explained all of that to the public We'll probably see what happened in episode 8 or whatever episode it was that we'll see what happened after the explosion.

he may not have taken office yet- im not sure how the US system works. Is there a delay before taking up the post?

Well, if Lindeman's dead then perhaps part of his insurance policy was to discredit anyone involved in his death, i.e. Nathan, it's going to be another one of those "we'll find out in Ep20".

Nathan shouldn't be stricken with grief, he hasn't done anything wrong! He had no way of knowing, and when he did find out, he objected to it, he didn't accept it at all. He saved the whole of NY by flying peter up. Peter survived anyway. Even if peter WAS dead, Nathan would have sacrificed one life (who was gunna die anyway) in order to save a whole city from ultimate meltdown!!!

The flying guy that Claire met at school, West. I highly doubt he has anything to do with Nathan, they said many times Season 2 will deal with people that have the same powers. I'd say that answers that.

As for why Nathan isn't in Congress, I think that post from the website pretty much sums it up, but I am sure in the Four Months Ago episode we'll find out exactly.

I said this on another thread but AICN (I think) reported that in EP4 (????) a link between Nathan and West is discovered, it's probably not paternal or anything.

he somehow feels guilty about what happened, and it snowballed to depression, alcoholism and resentment towards others. i don't think he hates claire tho, it's just that he can't handle more problems right now. maybe he resigned from congress. or maybe somebody found out that he cheated and ratted him out.

He is too grieved from the death of his brother to want to work.

Totally agree. For all intents and purposes, Nathan is dead to the world, even to most of his family, with all the guilt and the weight of the world already on his shoulders because of what happened with Peter, why go into congress, it just wouldnt happen. Maybe he does have resentment to it too, if he had reacted sooner, taken up the cause earlier, he could have prevented the explosion full stop. But the idea of helping the world as President was too much for him at the time.

Nathan seems to have become very depressed since that night in Kirby Plaza. I hope they explain more about what happened later on in the series. I think he's quit his job almost entirely, and turned to the drink by the looks of it.

Thank you. I don't think it's feasible to assume that just because West has the same apparent power as Nathan that they are father-and-son. DL and Micah's powers are completely different. Claire and Nathan's powers are completely different.

Just because they have teh same ability it doesn't mean they are related.

i don't think he joined congress cuz of how bad he felt... plus look at him, he's washed up, flew away from his brother, they really still haven't explained what happened there

I think he´s chosen his path ..., getting to the Congress was part of his mother´s plans and after episode one we´ve seen he turned against her and against whatever she had planned for him ..., plus, he looks really worried about knowing what happened to Peter ...

Yeah I agree, In the episode there is a fair deal of tension between Nathan and his mother.

I would say it is most likely because of guilt and a pure hatred of his mother ... or perhaps he is just taking some annual leave or something

The logical conclusion seems to be that Nathan may have just 'disappeared' from public life entirely. I still haven't seen any proof that he hasn't just faked his own death/engineered his own disappearance. He certainly seems to be going to a limited degree of trouble not to be recognised any more.

...also, annual leave? Can you really grow that big a beard in two weeks? Damn, these Congressmen must have long vacations.

...or, of course, the vast electoral fraud got uncovered and he got kicked out of Congress.
