American's shouldn't question the English language

You tell 'em, skippy... especially since you broke some basic grammar rules doing it. The plural of "American" is "Americans" -- there is no apostrophe. And of course, you missed a period at the end of that sentence.
Point being, if you're going to cop an attitude about people's grammar, spelling, or chosen dialect of a language, you probably shouldn't use sloppy grammar, bad spelling, etc. Or you could simply not raise the specter (or spectre, if you prefer) of trans-Atlantic linguistic posturing, and save everyone on the discussion board the grief of having to wade through ill-informed "Our way is the right way of spelling" posts. Sorry to say it, but nobody "owns" a language, and it's silly to claim that one dialect is somehow superior to another.
Also, if you follow the link to
Oxford's entry for spell, you'd see that the Oxford dictionary clearly states, "past and past part. spelled or chiefly Brit. spelt." It's ridiculous to jump on someone's case for using "spelt," though clearly since this discussion board is mainly populated by Americans (since Heroes is a U.S.-produced show), this spelling might seem odd to most readers. Trust me, things only seem odd because you're simply not accustomed to them. Case in point, I grew up spelling the past tense of kneel as "knelt," so whenever I see "kneeled" in print, it seems wrong to me. The same thing can be said for irregular plurals I learned (or is that "learnt?") as a kid, which are slowly dying out.
Languages evolve. American English isn't the same thing as British English. And saying that Americans have nothing valid to say about English (the family of languages) is pretty asinine... about as asinine as going off on someone for using a variant spelling peculiar to their dialect.
Whew... glad to get that off my chest.
It's hard not to be a curmudgeon when so many people post half-baked theories that could be easily discounted by a careful re-watching of the show. (Yeah, I know people aren't that observant these days, but personally I like Heroes because it doesn't spoon-feed me the details.) If anything, it seems as though the signal-to-noise ratio has gotten worse this season. I'm not saying you need to buy a DVR to play this game... but it sure wouldn't hurt to invest in a TiVo. Seriously, TiVo's instant replay feature is great for when you just aren't sure of some detail...
