Full Version: How would you react if you regenerated a mortal injury?
Got Heroes > Heroes: Episode Discussion > Volume Two: Generations > Chapter 03 - "Kindred"

WTF is it with people in this series becoming so upset when they discover they can heal grievious injuries? Both Claire and Kensei act like it's the worst thing that ever happened to them!

Is there any sort of logic to that at all? I could understand if your power had a downside. For instance, Parkman's telepathy significantly changes the way he lives his life.

But there is almost no conceivable downside to regeneration, and you certainly wouldn't call it a curse to survive 3 arrows in the chest...

This series would be a lot better if the characters were a bit better thought out :/

Agreed on Claire...she just whinges so much. It does my head in

But with Kensei, at first he was shocked that he healed, and was scared from Hiro. He didnt know what else Hiro could do..But then he overcame it and started getting all happy saying he could make so much money out of this..and whatever else

Agreed. Kensei had the most natural reaction (for his time). Considering it was feudal Japan, it was only natural for him to react/say that he has been cursed. And then, to later revel on the fact that he's seemingly immortal.

Claire, blargh. I agree. Too much angst. But I guess now, it's more of "why can't I show/share this to everyone else?" than, "OMG, I'm a freak."

Seriously, if I were HRG, I'd smack that bitch around and tell her "Why the hell are you worried about fitting in with a crowd that will probably die before you do?" smile.gif)

Oh and yeah...my reaction if I regenerated an injury would be like "HOLY SHI...I'M GONNA BE FAMOUS/RICH!"

I would probably react like Kensei; shock, disgust and paranoia, followed by acceptance and euphoria at being able to heal myself from pretty much anything. biggrin.gif

shocked....
confused...
and then happy as hell biggrin.gif:D:D
I mean if you got that ability...
You can get rich $_$
Mr. Extra Extra
How old are you guys?
Cause I'm 17, and us teens, well, I guess you could say angsting is what we do for a living. We just want to fit in, because that's what everyone wants at this age. To be normal. And it's really hard for her because the rest of the Heroes, sans Micah and Molly, all had their powers when they were in their 20s, 30s, etc. PLUS because of what she can do, her life has been pretty harsh. Her father almost getting killed. Seeing her uncle explode. Having her only real friend's memories erased. Having one of her (Should I say fake?) friends, Jackie, murdered. Having a phsychopath come after her...

im 18 years old..
But I do know how it feels not to fit in but having this ability outweighs everything if you ask me biggrin.gif
Raekon
I would wonder first if it's really true.
Probably confused and a bit scared at first.
I would be happy about it and accept it afterwards
but wouldn't say to anyone because I wouldn't want
to end up in a Lab where people would try to do tests
with me only so they can find out how I do it
(they will cut you, they will test you, they will part you into pieces). sad.gif

You guys thinking greedy about money and being rich but if you tell the world
only so you can be invited in talk show or such, you will at the end be marked
as a "freak" of nature and will have everyone allover you who would be willing
to "test" your ability. Good Luck with that! tongue.gif

I'm 24. When I was around 17, I remember angst-ing about stuff, but fitting in was never a goal for me in college. I wanted to be different.

And seriously, the reaction for the "ability" is wierd. If ANYONE had the ability to be seemingly immortal, you probably wouldn't brood over it. No matter how angsty you are.

You enlisted numerous things regarding how everything might have taken a toll on Claire (ie: uncle going boom, witnessing murder, Sylar after her), but it seems to me that she easily forgot how Bennet took a bullet just so that she can be safe. We all remember that heart-wrenching episode in season 1, don't we?

Of course Raekon ! ><
I wouldnt tell anyone else cuzz there are people who would try and capture you and do tests on you..
That totally hurts for someone who regenerates..
You get poisioned, thrown from an airplane 30.000 ft in the air, you get to cut in millions of pieces except for your head and you still regenerate :x

But I would still think its cool tongue.gif

I would try to use my power to help people... like Superman biggrin.gif I'd take bullets or stuff because I could heal myself from it.
awesomemac

There's some awful big bullets out there, that would turn Claire's head, into a canoe rolleyes.gif
If it happened to me, I'd be going, WTF? How could this be? Shock over, now time to play some practical jokes. I wonder if I could keep an eye out or lend someone a hand or two.
Imagine the penalty's you could pull off in the FIFA world cup to win you the game tongue.gif
the list of shenanigans goes on....

Christ it's turning into some sort of teeny bopper emo convention on these boards.

hehe... I think younger people just have more time to spend on the internet...

I do feel like Claire's acting like a typical 16 year old girl, or at least a typical 16 year old girl as written by a man who *isn't* a 16 year old girl... they're trying wink.gif

If I had NO IDEA about powers at all, and manifested healing? I would totally freak out. I mean, just something awful. And then, if the shock didn't kill me... I would hopefully start to see it as totally awesome, but I would probably never get over the paranoia that something was horribly, horribly wrong with me. And I would never EVER tell anyone.

Now, if I knew I had a flying dad and had run into enough other "freaks" to know that these things happen? I would be the happiest person alive.
Seriously? I know it's not as much "fun"... but how is that not the best power ever? Even if you don't use it for profit or evil... just a nice little insurance policy... of living forever... Or at least never getting hurt wink.gif
