I agree that it all points to the graphic novel... But what about people who just watch the show and either don't have access to, or have no knowledge of, the online graphic stories? How are they supposed to know anything about The Liquid Man?
It's the mark of good storytelling to hide things from the viewer, to create intrigue.
As someone who had no knowledge of the graphic stories (til this thread) I thought it was fine not to know who The Liquid Man was. It's not like his name is particularly vague as to what his powers are...
In fact I'd be happy if Heroes had more of these sorts of unexplained references; enough to make you feel like there's a depth to the universe. Once people feel they have a storyline all figured out, there's no mystery left and they become less entertained by it.
