So we all heard about the potential strike from the Writer's Guild of America, well as of last night (nov. 04), it was confirmed the writers' are definitely on strike, which will affect (if not all) most television shows for the rest of the season, including Heroes.

The set of Heroes has already produced their alternative Episode 11 (December 03) episode in the case of the strike; which has occurred, so we will be seeing the end of Heroes for Season 2 in less than a month unfortunately...unless they settle this all before then.

Well, it's happening. The Writer's Guild of America, the union to which pretty much all Hollywood screenwriters belong, is on strike as of last night. As of this morning, no scripts are being written, current affairs comedy shows have come to a standstill and US TV is up the creek without a paddle. Hollywood may have been stocking up on scripts - but right now, no one is around to do rewrites.

Article about the Writer's Strike Here: http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2007/11/strike-its-a-re.html

Less than 12 hours after their contract expired at midnight on Oct. 31, some 2,000-plus writers assembled in the Los Angeles Convention Center to hear union leaders declare that a strike will occur; the only question now is when. Many believe the picket lines could begin forming as early as this afternoon (at least, that's what some New York-based scribes were led to believe based on an earlier meeting), but the common wisdom is that the Writers Guild of America will inform writers to start waving the placards Monday morning, unless, of course, an 11th-hour deal is hammered out over the weekend.

Strike Fallout: Heroes Prepping Season Finale!
Heroes Affect To The Strike Article:
http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...eroes/800026358

Heroes' second season may be coming to a close a lot sooner than expected due to the forthcoming apocalypse, also known in some circles as the d*** writers' strike.

Sources confirm that the show is going back and shooting an alternate ending to the Dec. 3 episode that, if used, would allow the episode to function as a season finale in the event of a strike. Originally, the episode was only supposed to serve as the conclusion of the current "Generations" arc. Should an 11th-hour agreement be reached and a strike averted (fingers crossed!), the alt ending would likely be scrapped.

to my understanding, and for most other television shows as well...but in the case of heroes, it will end after episode 11 . then season 3 will begin NEXT fall.

IF the writers get what they want within the next couple weeks then they will continue writing, but at this rate, it seems the writers' are putting up a big fight.
Alexsandra
It sucks!
Well, they could hire the fans to write, it would be less costly and more funny, lol. tongue.gif

I wonder if Supernatural has ended too, then.

Is there a list somewhere that shows what shows will be affected?

I found it incredibly hard to locate the basic underline on the argument and strike purpose, but I got it. If you want the gist of things, here is the article:

Why the strike is happening.
ronthar
Wait wait wait...... tell me this only effects TV shows and NOT movies too.... totaly not sh*tting you i won a contest to get a theater to myself + 50 friends to see any movie playing in theaters some time before june and if this F's that up I'm gona be one sad panda = ( not that im not already a sad panda about it screwing heroes but ahhhh! this sucks >_<

My understanding is that it technically affects the movie industry, but that since any film coming out over the next few months has already been scripted (even filmed), it will only do major damage to the movie industry if the strike goes on for an extended period of time.
yixing119
bad news! aslo I have knowed this news! it's a big strike to Heroes!
DoctorHeroes
This sucks.
Power Mimic
It's The End of The World! ...Well the TV world at least.

I hope this strike doesn't last longer than a few days to a week at the most.
The studios are going to have to negotiate with the writers, they're not going to give in...

I don't think it fair to say that season 2 is OVER!!! We're are not at that stage, yet.
Heading towards it, yes, but not there yet. The strike could be over in a few days, we don't know how long it'll last.
Queen_of_Ice
I hope the strike will end soon, because ending the second season of Heroes on episode 11 really-really sucks.

BAH! It's just plain painful!!! *sighs* Monday's are going to go back to sucking again...

Although on an unrelated note - many thanks to the staff of the forum for the quick email updates of this situation! At least now I can warn all my fellow Hero addicted friends! So thanks for keeping us informed!

Hey guys,

I found this article over at E! last week that explains who it affects and when new episodes will dry up for each types of series. Sounds like Leno and Letterman will be first to be affected, then soap operas, then weekly shows like Heroes. Movies will probably not be a big deal since I've read that most movie production companies have scripts in hand in advance so they'll just go through that list and that some writers won't stop writing so they can quickly sell scripts to movie producers once the strike is over so movies will be the least affected if at all.

Here's the part that goes over it (direct quote from article):

QUOTE
Many of you have been writing in to ask: What does this mean for our favorite shows? I have to admit, I'm still wrapping my own head around it, but here's what I can tell you:

The effects of the strike will be felt first on nighttime shows such as Leno, Letterman, Kimmel and (this one's hard to stomach) The Daily Show, which obviously require scripts on a daily basis.

Then the soap-opera scripts will run dry.

And then, somewhere around January or February, most of the series currently on the air will run out their completed episodes and be replaced by reality and news programming, reruns or that burning log in the fireplace normally reserved for Christmas Day (essentially, whatever the nets can muster).
Christopher Gorham, America Ferrera, Ugly Betty

So, when we're talking about Grey's, Ugly Betty, The Office, etc., you can expect to get weepy in January. But of course, it also depends on how long the strike lasts. It could be as short as five days or as long as the last strike in 1988—22 weeks—or even longer.

From all appearances, Lost may have the best advantage of all series, given that it has been stockpiling new scripts since June and not a single episode has aired. At this point, 14 of 16 episodes have been written. And if the strike does last long enough to seriously impact other series, Lost could very well be the only quality scripted drama on television in February (along with perhaps 24, though it's far more behind in scripts due to an overhaul of location and storyline).
Heroes: Zachary Quinto

Heroes also might not have it quite so bad. This year, producers decided to break up the season into "volumes," and the first volume is set to come to an end the first week of December. It's likely that the wait for the second volume would simply extend until after the strike is over, so at least fans would have a natural break in the storyline.

And then you have the more depressing scenarios. For starters, there are producers like Joss Whedon, whose new series Dollhouse has been catapulting forward at lightning speed, only to be derailed by the strike. "I will be busy picketing," Whedon told me yesterday. "I support the guild, and I think what we are doing is unfortunate but necessary. That means I don't get to have my fun, but that isn't the point."

It's also a grim story for new series, as evidenced by Chuck and Gossip Girl boss Josh Schwartz, whose two new shows have been gaining both momentum and buzz and now must come to a screeching halt. Sources have told me Gossip Girl lost a cover of Entertainment Weekly because of the strike (it might not be on the air when the cover would hit stands) and that Chuck will not receive news of a full-season pickup until after the strike is over. "I support the guild," Schwartz told me. "But it's unfortunate for everyone, all the way around."

Bottom line: We'll have our shows all this month for November sweeps, then we'll notice a dip in new programming (as usual) in December. Then come January or February, we'll feel it big.

hironakamatthew
that is truly sad new about heroes ending early but I fully support the writers with what they are doing. It has been far too long that they have been underpaid and as we are about to find out, without them there is no television.

I wonder how long it is going to be before desperate directors and producers look to the net to rip ideas off from fanfics etc tongue.gif
Chaos Proxy
Try to start petition or something, to collect votes / cash for Heroes to continue with the original script.
Just whining doesn't affect anything.
The DOKTOR
Even though I am really bummed out by the news, I must say that I support the writers' choice.
I don't know if the alternate ending is already shot, but if this season must end on December 3rd, why not put the extra money on some good special effects and cook us a kick a** season finale, give us an all out Good vs Evil fight that would leave a crater in place of Primatech Paper or something like that? I know I'm only fantasizing but since last year's finale, I dream of a big budget super-hero battle on my favorite TV show.
In fact, I don't know if stopping the season on December 3rd would mean extra money for the producers but, hey, dream on... happy.gif
Archis
So no two more new episodes sad.gif
no origins or watever they were gonna call it sad.gif

well, i hope in all these months without HEROES, i hope tim kring comes up with some kickass brilliant new ideas and storylines..well, i just hope he doesnt go on a strike!
Vikingisme
NO!!!! sad.gif

Here's hoping the strike will only last a few days.

Please?
gingerland1982
so why don't they just carry on after the strike (if it is only 30 days say)? why would you end it there and make you wait so long when we onl got half a story?

I knew this would happen angry.gif

The problem is that the strike could last as long as half a year. mellow.gif
But I agree. They should do the hiatus thing they did last season and just wait and see.
Da.Cu-Ba
But after all they'll continue writing Heroes (etc), or DOES Heroes season 2 actually stops @ episode 11 [was that planned i mean] ??
Beck
They could always let the fans write for it. It would be better than the current arcs /:
WalterFootball
Just pay the d*** writers! They don't make nearly enough!!! WTF!!!

I work weekends. On Saturday, I work noon till 2 AM. On Sunday, I work 11 AM in the morning till 3 AM at night. On Monday, I work from 4 PM till 2 AM. I look forward to coming home, and watching the Heroes episode I taped. That's what gets me through the week.

Now they're taking that away from me. Mother f---ers.

What a shame, although I do agree with the writers in this. Seriously, this was coming. I just feel upset that it has to make such an impact on the people. Maybe they want the viewers to take a stand as well...
Montana
Wow...I heard about this over the weekend and I was silently hoping things would be straightened out. I do understand where the writers are coming from with this strike, but losing out on Heroes just makes me feel so sad.

I mean, if they are altering episode 11 are we not essentially losing out on part of the story?

*sighs* I hope that the strike doesn't last forever. I read that the last strike like this took 22 weeks to resolve the issues.
tinyness
This totally sucks. I hope this issue will be resolved quickly. :<
AdmiralOwen
d***! wonder if season 2 will continue or they will jump to season 3 later next year??
At least Battelstar Galactica season 4 is in the can and in post production. ONe show that can finish on its own terms

ShadowSage
Well this sucks big time.

No more Heroes sad.gif

I really do hope they get this sorted out... ;o
Novak Fan
this totally, TOTALLY sucks! sad.gif Big time
Drew
they will have to start writing again when they hear of cases of people killing themselves because of lack of heroes... sad.gif
Sinner
Well if Hollywood wasn't so d*** stingy with ther money all of this wouldn't have happened.
wickedm
The thing is once a group goes out on strike, and the writers have legit reasons to do it, other groups don't cross the picket line in sympathy.

So if they have a buch of scripts ready to go, for any show, with re-writes all ready taken care of there is a possiblity that there won't be technical people, or make up people, or costumers and so on.

Writers the thing that hold hollywood together but they get the least respect and cash. And they can't just hire new writers to replace those on strike because they can't cross a picket line either. Scabs are not well liked in any industry even if they do it cause they need money badly.
