umm...who wouldn't want to see this?! YES!

Seriously though, I don't see why the writers cannot just keep writing and not turning in the scripts. This way they wouldn't be punishing the fans. And they wouldn't lose all this time while striking...they'd still be getting work done and be able to make money when the strike was over.

I just hate the idea that we aren't going to see Heroes the way it was intended to be seen. It gives me a d*** stomache ache. I don't care if I have to wait 3 months, I want to see it how it was meant to be seen!

I totally agree! I am so sad that now it is going to be a botched ending instead of the real one. How sad for the reputation of this show. It could have went so much better with regular seasons and great stories. Lets just pray that this is over soon and that we can have many many uninterupted, drama free seasons of pure enjoyment!

Can anyone find or compile a list of shows that are being affected by this strike.

Every show or movie produced in America where there is some original content being created by a writer or a team of writers. No new content will be written at all till the strike is over.
Here's a full page ad being run:

Also those writers a really greedy. 37k is enough money to live off and they can leave in a decent house and put food on the table they shouldn't be crying for a pay raise.

37k works great for a single person living in Ohio. For a family in LA? That's really shitty.
It's called cost of living. For most people in the WGA it really only pays off to live in either LA or NYC where you can get steady work on a show or movie.
And they're not even asking for anything DRASTIC- just equality to what the DGA and the SAG members will ask for and above in the Spring.

Good for them!
kal
Yeah this does suck bigtime, IF this does happen does anyone know when it will start back up again. If it wasnt for all us viewers the show would never of had the ratings to continue.

Dude this is horrible news I dont like this at all, atleast we have a new episode to look forward to tonight.

I think I'd rather have them start a fall hiatus for heroes now -- and roll the rest of the new episodes again in a month or two if we don't get a quick resolution to the strike. This gives a better opportunity to get back into production for something that resembles a full season once the big bad producers cave to the massive loss of ad revenue.
misshonest20
Ya, at least we have a new episode tonight:) wow, I didn't know it was writers for all networks/cinema...how sad for us... I really don't think that they are asking for so much, just equality, besides that amount is simply pitiful!

This is bugging me...It is going to wind up keeping me awake tonight when I go to be later on and I have to get enough sleep I work tomorrow with Small Kids and I bowl tomorrow night...Than Wednesday is my 29th Birthday and Ia m going to NYC two long days I need sleep I have to think of good things LOl dry.gif

I do not think movies would be affected because i think most of the scripts for movies heading to theaters are written by the screenwriters of screenplayer's guild or whatever the hell they call it...My Mother is like "no big deal it is just tv you can find something else to do"...I" am like Hey! if it was happening to you you would be angry too you would not be like "Oh it is no big deal!"

wth?!!! I get all excited about season 2 and it's all coming to an end just because of this?!!!! CRAP!!!!! I suggest we write letters to the Writer's Guild of America, but not to complain. We should say that we appreciate their work, not just for Heroes, but for other shows too and that this strike shouldn't interfere w/ the shows that people know and love.

super-hiro1988
There's two different organizations, Writers Guild of America, East and Writers Guild of America, West.

Here's the reasons for the strike:

From Wikipedia :

The strike stems from the current handling of royalties from the sale of films distributed through new media methods. This includes royalties earned from Internet distribution services such as iTunes, as well as DVD sales. These are currently handled by a contract clause dating to 1985 which the unions feel is in need of an update.

Over at a Supernatural forum I mostly post in, our mod has come up with an idea to send emails or letters to the Governor of California, who we all know is Arnold Schwarzenegger, to ask him nicely to intervene and get the studios and writers talking again for a quick agreement so as to not effect the regular season. He was in the entertainment business he might know a thing or two about it. Our goal is spread this around to all the major shows out there, because it not only effects Heroes (or in our case over there Supernatural), but ALL shows, it's kinda like "Save Our Shows" campaign. I mean come on who really wants to see reality shows and repeats?

We think enough emails and letters with the same subject might make an impact. I plan on sending one soon so if you guys want to participate, please spread this around to other TV show forums you might be currently active in to get enough fans to make a difference. Here's the contact info:

link to email him:

Address, phone, and fax:

Its not true NBC, (the network that airs Heroes) doesn't have any plans on canceling it soon because it's one of its highest rated shows. The whole ratings thing is kinda complicated, although right now about 11 mil people watch the show (which is about 5 mil lower than last season), most networks care about the demographic they hit, if that's high then they'll likely keep the show around. Plus with the plans they had/have with the Origins episodes, NBC wouldn't do that if they planned on canceling it.

maybe if all of us concentrate our will power, they will settle the Strike soon...

come guys and gals, believe!

we could also sign a petition
Snowind
Jeez.... I don't think people would care if the freaking dvd set costs 4 cents more... I mean I know that in total sales that represents millions but come on... I won't care if I pay 4 cents more if I get to watch the season (full season I might add... I don't like 11 eppy crap)

Come on... NBC are just assholes... They should pay them and continue... now they are going to lose millions because ratings will drop... so in the end they will have to pay, why not pay sooner than later?...
zhlim
well this seems impossible.if that happens, tv shows would be history...and then slowly movies will also die out and humans will have nothing to do in their free time.

Yeah but at the same time, companies are making MILLIONS of their creations! I say go writers go!
chatterbox9735
Since it is the Screen Writers Guild of America (I think thats right,I forget things quickly... blink.gif ),then it could thoeretically affect a lot of things if they don't solve this soon. The news said that the last time there was a strike by them was in like the '80s,and it lasted months and cost the industry millions of dollars...they say this one could potentially cost billions. And this should affect movies too,its just that we wouldn't notice unless this goes on a loooonnggg time. And it affects all shows that need a script, anything not news or reality tv pretty much.

I basically want to go jump off a building now. (ok,not really,but...I mean I'm very upset. o.o' Figurative building of doom....maybe smash the tv,or write a nasty letter...or rant here.....)
I HATE reality tv,and WILL NOT watch any of it.No offense meant to anyone who does like them,to each his own,I'm not trying to imply there is anything wrong with the shows...just that I myself cannot stand them. And of course, all the networks are saying they are "prepared" because they have news shows and reality tv shows to fill up the gap if this does continue long enough to throw off the shows.I have heard there might be reruns too,but...not quite my cup of tea either.

So here is the lament of hundreds of Heroes fans...because instead of merely ending a story arc, they could end the whole season very soon....
And all I even watch anymore is Heroes....and House reruns.I can't stand most of whats on tv.But with no one writing scripts,it basically is the end of everything but reruns.

I'm personally on the writers side on this too.The networks are going to have a major drop in ratings, lose tons of money, and make complete fools of themselves and have to end up giving in later anyways. So why won't they just give in to the writers now and save the season for all the shows before going through all that pain? Its ridiculous. They think the little writers will give in and they can just step all over everyone and get rich.... XP to them. And now that the writers are doing this, its going to affect all sorts of other groups...directors,everyone really. Its stupid.Just plain stupid.

*sigh*Wow,I really needed to get that off my chest.I feel a little better now. Thanks for putting up with my long-winded-ness.I feel rather strongly about this myself, and can't really believe I'm seeing this in a way....you'd think the fans reactions alone would have made them reconsider not giving in sooner to the writers' demands.I wouldn't be surprised if in a few weeks this is all resolved just because of the strong response. Then all this fuss would have been for nothing at all... ><' Its Murphy's Law after all.Well,I'm crossing my fingers too I guess.

[btw, totally off topic, but my new keyboard is crap,so I apologize now if I missed any strange errors in my post,I'm trying to reread this and catch them, but this thing is driving me nuts.... ><" ]

This sucks. Why cant they just give them the pay raise they want. This could go on for months.

Shows affected by the Hollywood writers strike
The Associated Press
Last Updated 2:48 pm PST Monday, November 5, 2007

Networks said the following shows will immediately go into reruns because of the writers strike:

- NBC: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "Last Call with Carson Daly."

- CBS: "Late Show with David Letterman" and "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson."

- Comedy Central: "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "Colbert Report."

Networks and publicists cited these other impacts:

- "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" will air new episodes on Monday and Tuesday that were filmed before the strike.

- ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" will air as usual Monday and Tuesday.

- CBS soap operas such as "The Young and the Restless," "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns" will continue uninterrupted for several months with completed scripts.

- ABC's "The View" talk show will continue uninterrupted because of contingency plans made before the strike.

- ABC soaps, including "All My Children," "One Life to Live" and "General Hospital," have been written into the new year and will not be interrupted.

"The Oprah Winfrey Show" doesn't employ union writers and will continue uninterrupted.
Raekon
That explains why the writer in my gaming project doesn't have "much time" to continue writing the dialogues to the story I'm providing him with all of sudden. -.-

They must have started the whole thing a month ago though. They just react now in a more harming way for the industry. sad.gif

What I don't get in the whole thing when it comes to heroes is, why they still didn't had the episodes 12 and 13 already written since we are already viewing the 7th episode? O_o

No wonder they can't keep up this way.....

Actually,as far as I know they did have stuff for those episodes, its just that they would be moving on into a new story arc.Episode 11 is just apparently where they felt it was good to end the season if they can't get more scripts...if they finished whatever they had with 12 and 13 then we would be left hanging...the episode 11 is an alternate one to what they were originally planning to use that they made to end the season. It was a last second thing to close off this arc AND the season, not just them not planning ahead.
As far as I know.I heard rumors that they've long since planned major parts of the plot a little beyond 11,but its not like I know personally. *shrug* They were saying before the season started that season 2 would start with one arc, then the second half would cover something new that the other arc brought up.
perfectly-messy
that's so sad...its just getting good, and now...sad.gif

So is it absolutely 100% sure that its gonna end in 4 episodes?
advo
I think it's pretty clear that the strike will last for a while. The last time a strike of similar magnitude happened in 1988 and lasted for... 22 WEEKS! Bye, bye Heroes and every other show I adore. Even the movie industry will eventually be affected. Even now, they won't be able to promote their shows though those host-shows like Leno or what they are called.

Welllll....no,and yes.Technically the new version of episode 11 is for "just in case" this whole thing isn't solved in time for them to keep writing. But,we can be fairly certain that it won't end that quick,so basically count on it for now.

*shrug* I know,vague....but it really depends on how bad they wanna fight the writers...

And it doesn't look good.
:'(
navituna
i'm really sad. wah.
chatterbox9735
And before I give in and go to sleep,I thought I'd comment on all the posts about petitioning or writing someone...

It isn't the government's problem whether you can watch your favourite program. The strike isn't illegal, and its between the parties involved. They have to solve this themselves. Its the leaders of each side that call an end to this sort of thing. No one is being violent. And obviously they know that fans are gonna be upset,so writing anyone won't really help. The problem isn't that nobody cares if the shows have to come to a complete standstill because there is no one writing the script...they know we care.Thats not why they stopped.

So don't take this the wrong way,I'm not trying to be the "party pooper".If you feel like it,go right on ahead and do whatever you like.I just know from personal experience that they'll do what they gotta do no matter how many people write to them begging otherwise.I had a show I loved cancelled regardless of doing something like this...which I participated in myself. *sigh* It was a real downer.
But really,it just isn't something a government official can walk in on,not until it becomes a goverment problem.US citizens crying over their tv shows is not something they will be having trouble sleeping over tonight.Sorry.

All of us waited months for the 2nd season of Heroes. We waited but NOW we're only gonna get 11 episodes, and wait once again?!? GRR..
