alright! i hope that is true, and i hope we dont have to worry about this writers strike crap anymore. i mean seriously all they care about is their money. im sure they make PLENTY of money already, freakin get over it! i mean, what about us normal people? we can handle making around minimum wage and THEY cant handle the tons of money THEY get? seriously... greedy people.

Are you serious? Have you read anything anybody has said?

http://www.fans4writers.com/

A site the Whedonesquers have started to support the writers while they're striking- we've donated money for pizza etc. It has a lot of information about how you can show your support (not just by buying pizza for the picket lines)

Correct me if I'm wrong but the strike is affecting Heroes.

The only good part that they said in the article that they've already filmed the 11 episodes that
are in Volume 2. So they're ending Season 2 at that point on Dec 3 and Season 3 will start with
Volume 3.

So Heroes is "saved" because they're not stuck in the middle of a Season like some other shows are.
It does not mention if Season 3 will begin after the strike or next fall, most likely next fall.
qinrawks
Yeah the article was saying that since Heroes is divided into arcs, it's a good thing that the producers would not have to leave half the season hanging. They could at least give some form of closure to us by finishing the 1st portion of season 2 at episode 11.

Then when the strike ends, or when it's time for season 3, they could just pick up where they left off.

Whereas for other dramas, their storylines span the whole season, and now because of the strike, they would just have to stop airing the shows suddenly, without any form of conclusion whatsoever.

so heroes is still finishing early sad.gif

HEROES is better tongue.gif

why does it have to end early!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
misshonest20
I am so happy to hear the good news!!!

So, from what i understand, the strike is still continuing and will still effect heroes, but rather than end season two alternatly, they are going to use the same storyline they would have used had the stike not happened.

We will get to see what was orginally meant to happen eventaully, with an hiatus happening after december 3rd, and then the show will either continue on after the strike ends, or the other half of the storyline will continue in the fall of 2008.

Its still kind of crappy cause were gonna have to wait a long time, but at the very least, we won't get screwed by seeing an alternate version of what was supposed to happen. Hopefully, season two won't end on december 3rd, and will continue on after a short (however painfull) winter break, like last year. If not, I will be praying for time to pass quickly.

Oh, and thanks for finding and posting the link with the relieving news! biggrin.gif

im glad that there carrying over the stuff that was supose to be on season 2 over to season 3 but if u think about it there could of been a whole series about season 3 whatever its gong to be about, but if the strike was to finish then we can see the whole of season 2 at the same time and the whole of season 3 instead of having just half a season about season 3... if u get what i meen

I agree with the writers, and I am willing for them to sacrifice TV shows to get their point across! Pay them what they deserve! I can totally relate, I am in the Music Industry, being a SOLO Independent Music Artist myself, I can understand what they are mad about! They don't want to work for free! Everything you see on TV these is pretty much scripted, reality television or not... So... (Yes, it will probably affect American Idol as well!), SO anyways...

They only get payed about 0.06 Cents for every episode download on and off iTunes, online stores and Digital Media Providers. So yes, you could see where I relate. I only get about 30 Cents for every .99 Cent download on/off my myspace page and iTunes. I say GIVE THEM MORE OFF A LIVING! It's not easy living in Southern California! It is EXPENSIVE!

NBC is the one who should step up the most especially because of the fact that HEROES and DEAL OR NO DEAL pretty much gave them back their existence! BUT NOOOOO! NBC turns out to be the most selfish of all networks in a time of crisis!

ABC has been the second worst, threatening to NOT EVEN AIR LOST SEASON 4, if the strike persists! SO yeah... Even though this sucks, I am willing for HEROES to be coming to an end early... Call me an A-Hole, but realize that I am right...

I don't think that your an A-Hole, I totally agree with you! Although this strike sucks for the fans, it has to be done. When this is over we will have many seasons of non-interrupted enjoyment and this will seem unimportant. Stupid networks, just get over it and pay them already! Your gonna give in eventually!

Oh, and thank you to all the people who work on Heroes for working extra hard to finish this season so quickly, so that the show won't be comprimised by less than worthy alternate plots.

LOL, wouldn't that be nice. tongue.gif If only it was that simple. It's not just about these particular writers getting paid right now, it's about making sure that future generations of writers will be fairly compensated as well. That's why the writers are demanding to be paid for their material when it gets distributed through sources like iTunes and Amazon.com's downloading service. Both sides realize that the entertainment industry is rapidly changing-- new media, like the internet, are becoming increasingly important. The producers want to wait a few years and see what happens with the "new media" before deciding on how much compensation writers should get from it (most likely so they can ensure that they, the producers, continue getting the lion's share of the profits), and the writers want the issue of "new media" decided upon immediately. As far as I know, this is what the strike is mainly about-- the WGA was willing to pull their DVD residuals proposal off the table during the negotiations last weekend, if the networks would then be willing to agree on the new media issue. The networks still refused to make a fair deal, so the strike went forward and now the DVD proposal is, from what I've heard, back on the table.

(This is just what I've read, but I may have misinterpreted the info. Please do correct me if I'm mistaken. The last thing I want is to spread misinformation!)

They could always let the fans write for it. It would be better than the current arcs /:

The only problem is that you have to be in the union to write for tv. TV producers have agreed with the union to only use union talent. If they actually found a fan who could write for tv and used him the producers would have a heck of a bigger problem with the union that the one they have now!!

"With everyone at "Heroes" working at top speed, the show's team was able to come up with a second season with two volumes of episodes, comic book-style - and if need be, the volumes could be split into two separate seasons, since they were self-contained. The first story arc, called "Volume II: Generations," lasts 11 episodes, ending with "Powerless," scheduled to air December 3. If the writers' strike continues long enough to be disruptive to air the second story arc, "Powerless" can become the season finale, and the second self-contained arc, "Volume III," could kick off season three"

(from here)

so...just to clarify...this is what we already knew - they will finish the 1st arc of Season 2 on December 3rd, then if the strike isnt resolved, the 2nd arc of Season 2 will air next fall, followed by Season 3? I'm confused as to whether they've written/filmed any of the 2nd arc yet...

if they had written the 2nd arc then they would be able to produce it. They may have 1 or 2 episodes written for the 2nd arc but there's currently no point in continuing production for them as the strike 'could' last months, by which time they would've long run out of material (scripts).

This is why they have written and produced an alternative ending to arc 1 (episode 11) which will now act as a season finale, unless the strike comes to an end sometime soon.

As for the 2nd arc in the current situation..it will either air as a 2nd half to S2 in the fall or they will produce an 'extended' season 3. We await word on what will happen once Dec 3 nears.

so they are making an extended season 3, thats good coz i thought that if they carried over the last 12 eps onto the first half of season 3 well only have half a season about season 3 if u get what i meen, but if its extended hopefully they will have the last 12 for season 2 then the whole 23 for season 3.....if u get what i meen

so does it meen by 'extended' that they will have the last 12 eps from season 2 and the 23 season 3 episodes?

Man, I understand the writers have to get paid to. BUT, there is a time and place for everything. And in the middle of a Heroes season isn't the time and d*** sure not the place.
Jude93
Well, I'm glad to see that the article that I had found has been helpful. I'm still sad that they're ending the season early.

Maybe season 2 will be short and maybe season 3 will also be short...who knows. But if they're both short they can put it in one box set and say Heroes Season 2 and 3. Instead of having Heroes Season 2 on DVD with 11 episodes and then season 3 on DVD with like 37 or so episodes. I say 37 because season 2 of Heroes was supposed to be 24 episodes and 13 plus 11 is 24...then I'm assuming that season 3 will be about 23 episodes or so. Maybe a bit more (or less if there's yet another strike).

Also, I hope the writer strike is resolved before next fall...I can't wait a whole year for this stupid strike to end. What will I watch and what will I do to pass the time? It's ridiculous!!
JPW
i just reckon this is stupid. In the middle of Heroes too. Just when I was really looking forward to the new season, and recently became a fan of it.

It's like my interest was all for nothing.

And Fall, you're talking the US fall, which will be September 08 right? That is really bad, I see Heroes being lost interest now especially by casual viewers who have no idea this is even happening.

If they make a season with 11, it could hit the show very hard and piss people off, and the fact that they would have to wait another year is ridiculous.

Just give them what they want and shut them all up.

Actually retract you should be happy you even have a job and that you're writing for one of the world's most favourite shows get over it finish the 24 episodes and bring it up next season not when you're only halfway through, that's just horrible timing on your part.

The timing is part of the stength of the strike. It helps prove the writer's case and the outrage of fans should help make the networks cave sooner. Also this srtike does not only effect Heroes, it was a combined decision by writers country wide, so I'm sure that the Heroes writers could not just say "Lets wait until the end of my show, before we strike" to the thousands of other writers, it had to be done now, and so it was.

I understand your frustration, I am very disapointed too, but for the greater good, this has to be done. It will be over soon enough and things will be normal again, so instead of putting the victims (writers) down, how about supporting them?!

QUOTE(misshonest20 @ Nov 5 2007, 02:46 PM) *
I respect everyones opinion, but I disagree with those who think that the writers are being selfish.

First of all $37,000 is not much in California, and while it may be enough to support a modest family, why should the men and women who write the nation's/world's tv shows work for so little???

Second, compare the writer's piddly income with that of the networks excuatives and the actors and it truly is unfair.

Yes, the show would not be the show without the input/work from everyone, from the techs to the make-up artists, but the truth is, those people wouldn't have jobs, if the writers didn't churn out a good show.

The writers don't just sit there eating from the buffet all day, they have to concot stories that revolve and complitment eachother. They have to worry about bugeting, and how certain storylines/plots/characters can work with the buget. They also have to maintain an up-beat, edgy image with shocking characters/abilities/stunt and an addicting story-line. They have to make viewers love/hate certain characters. They have to maintain a certain emotional balance, by being selective of which scenes follow which. The writers are the reason that there are DVD's and other fan merchandise. They are the reason that we are here debating this. They deserve more than $37,000 a year!

I am angry that we have to suffer by losing our show early this year, but that is not the fault of the writers, it is the greedy/ungrateful networks who refuse to compensate the true creators of the show! (By networks I mean whoever is responsible for this part of bugeting/income)

Agree or Disagree???? Whatever you think, please be respetful!

Only rich people can pull this off...its incredible...
Most of us have to work 9 to 5 and get payed 50 times LESS then anyone involved with the heroes show... WE SHOULD ALL GO ON A STRIKE!

Viva La Revolucion.

Do you know what it's like to work in hollywood? Writers can have a hard time finding jobs and residuals are away that they can get paid between jobs. Only the well known writers can go from project to project, but most writers aren't able to do so.

Say if heroes was to be canceled today, and there wasn't a strike. All the writers and crew members would be out of jobs. For that writer it might be hard to find another job until pilot season. Once they have a job in pilot season it is still unclear if their show will be picked up. Out of about 100 shows a season 20-25 are picked up, and it would be rare if 10+ get picked up or a whole season. So they will still be out of a job until next season and they can try again. So getting residuals can help with in the downtime.

Same with movie writers, they sell their script for 100,000 bucks, sounds good right? but then they can't sell another script for 5 years. Now it only comes out to 20,000 a year. So what they are striking for is very important for their living.

Just because someone has a choice to "take a job" or not does not mean its okay to rob them blind of their talents. Besides this isn't about one job, this is about an entire industry that is screwing entertainment writers out of decent compensation for their work. If someone is talented and passionate about writing then the should go for it no matter the pay. And if an oppurtunity arises that allows them to strike for more decent wages, then I repeat, They should go for it! Get over your disapointment and stand behind our writers instead of putting them down.
