not too sure but in this case they keep reflecting the laser beams continuously in a cyllindrical Spring-like form

With technology and inventions progressing with time, someone in the future who HAS invented a Time machine can then travel back and tell the people of (lets say) 2007 how to build a Time Machine... Therefore a Time Machine that only works inefficiently, like you have described, wouldn't exist because the Time Travellers from the future would travel back to tell them how to do it properly in the first place!!
