Well, here's the premise if anyone's interested:

Fairytale characters from our childhood (Snow White, Red Riding Hood, The Big Bad Wolf, Sinbad, etc.) live beyond their tall tales in their own world, known as the Homelands. However, a being known as the Adversary began to invade the Homelands for nefarious reasons, forcing many of our known Fables to flee and leave their homes. While many were killed in the Adversary's advances, few managed to find portals across their realm that would lead to ours (known as the Mundane world). The series follows a group of exiled Fables that have taken up residence in New York City. It follows their lives living in the Mundane world and their efforts to one day return home.

It really is a title for mature audiences and makes great use of the characters' histories. Some of the characterizations are downright hilarious. Great example is Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Bill Willingham, the writer of the series, also has a great take on Prince Charming, who is probably one of my favorite characters in the series laugh.gif

Check it out...great writing by Bill Willingham, great art by Mark Buckingham and other associated artists, and just great fun.

I do!
I started reading it late (I started with the first 4 trades, and by then I think monthly issue #39 or so was already in stores) and then started buying it monthly(...well, last three issues were almost weeklies...)
and got also the hardcover (1001 Nights of Snowfall, which is splendid and also has been nominated directly or indirectly for 3 or more Eisners) and I read the first 6 issues of Jack of Fables (that I didn't enjoy much...).

That said: I think that many 'Heroes' fans -given the opportunity- would enjoy reading 'Fables'.
and not enjoy just a bit: enjoy it a lot.

Why? Because it's a graphic novel that has many themes that are similar to Heroes': people with extraordinary abilities, fighting an enemy that they don't know much, moving from a "timeline" to another, all this while living apparently 'normal lives' among us.

'Fables' is a splendid series that I can wholeheartedly recommend to any 'Heroes' fan

Woohoo! Another believer! As a heads up, TBP Vol. 9 is supposedly coming out this month or in June! For anyone that hasn't read the series yet, go to your local bookstore or comic shop and flip through the 1001 Nights of Snowfall graphic novel and/or the first trade paperback, entitled "Legends in Exile". Great stuff!

This 'Fables'

The first issue is free viewing online, so check it out!

Hooray for Fables! I was afraid I'd have to start a thread for it tongue.gif On the topic of 1001 Nights of Snowfall...poor, poor frog prince.

Interesting tidbit I picked up at last year's comic-con: when Bill Willingham first thought up Fables and their setting the character he had in mind for The Adversary was Peter Pan. However, due to the fact that peter pan is not in the public domain he had to alter who the adversary was and the origins of it.

Any of you comic readers ever give 'supreme powers' a shot? Tis a pretty badarse take on some of your quintessential super hero archtypes(power wise at least).
