One *slight* problem with the Hiro/Kieto time travel scene...

When they turned up at Hiro's mum's funeral and then big-Hiro bumped into mini-Hiro, why didn't mini-Hiro recognise, or speak to, his dad Keito (present-Keito), who was standing mere feet away from them...

And at the end of the scene when past-Keito calls over to mini-Hiro to get him to come over to pay his respects how on earth didn't he see present-Keito standing there? He must be able to recognise himself surely?

Kaito is 17 years older by now, remember (even if he didn't really look it, hehe). Maybe he just didn't look... he was only little

big-Hiro and present-Keito were standing about 10 feet apart...

How could little-Hiro possibly fail to see and/or acknowledge someone that,
to all intents and purposes, is his Dad... and looks exactly like his Dad?

And that doesn't answer the question as to how past-Keito fails to see his
future self either?!!
Auxii
Well.
Jr. Hiro in that scene doesn't exactly turn around.
And plus. Maybe Kaito was too upset and focused on his child-son to be looking at random people standing at the back of the crowd.
That or maybe he couldn't see his future-self.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight...

Hardly 'random people' (theres mini-Hiro, big-Hiro, whom true, he wouldn't recognise, AND HIMSELF!!)
and they were hardly in a crowd standing alone and apart from everyone else at the 'ceremony'...

I think even the most loony of us would recognise our own self were we to come face to face with ourselves...

It's pretty much common sense.
Past-Kaito turned around for what.. 5 seconds.

Even so... he had to look to find his boy...
Did he not wonder who he was talking to?
hironakamatthew
Even if he did, what would he have done about it?

"OMG! future hiro and future me!"

*future hiro and future kaito dissappear*

"oh well, I must be mad with grief"

Now you're just putting it upon yourself.
If someone points out something.
Your just going to ignore it.

Not at all...

Just pointing out the inconsistancy I saw during the episode...
Which no-one else has been able to successfully explain...

Although I could probably explain it myself...

Well seriously.
It is common sense.
Past-Kaito was at his wifes funeral.
There are certain circumstances.

Its also common sense that when you look at something, you see it...

The question I asked is why he didn't see HIMSELF standing mere feet
away from mini-Hiro...

Never mind eh... I wish I hadn't asked... especially when the responses
are so arguementative!!
Auxii
Aha, sorry.

But I guess you do have a point.

This wasn't the only time travel inconsistency, not sure if anyone else noticed but Hiro's sword (with Kensei symbol) disappears and reappears in Season 1. It disappeared the first time he found Sylar to rescue Ando, and reappears again when he has saved Ando and teleported to Japan.

Ah well. Even 17 years ago, Kaito was still an old man. Maybe he has poor eyesight or something. And I think the future Kaito knew better than to appear in front of everyone. Maybe he hid or something.

Well... if standing in full view of everyone is what you call hiding, then yes... he hid!

Auxii
Ok theres like..

Hiro + Hiro Jr.
Kaito.

Row of people

Row of people

Row of people

Past-Kaito.
-sparky-

Well... we beg to differ about how hidden he was...

But I'll say this...
Keito is as hidden from view as West is when he's flying around being a hero...

And he never gets spotted!!

Maybe because Kaito knows all about powers because he is in the company and knows his son can time travel he see's himself and just ignores it because he knows it is possible and he is too upset to think about it.

Thats possible...

But, at the time the funeral of Hiro's mum took place, how would Keito know that his son could time travel?

Didnīt Hero created a Time-Paradox by talking to himself ? Isnīt that what Future Hiro from 5 years in the future tried to prevent and thats why he went for Peterīs help instead of Hiroīs ? ? ?

Are the writters really THAT sloppy? Please donīt let this show become the new SmallVille ._.

Alright time to explain time paradoxes (prepare for multible headaches)

The only way to creat a time paradox is if he actually changes something to where he would not have gone back in the first place.

Example: Had he just grabbed his father and teleported to the present, why would he have gone back? He wouldn't have, thus his father would have died, then he would have gone back, then he would have, ect. Talking to himself didn't really change anything.

Another example, this is why he couldn't save Charlie. Had he convinced her to not come in that day, not only would she had not been killed, but he would have never met her, so he would have absolutely no reason to go back, and then the timeline would be the same.

As for the prophesy, in "Five Years Gone" (how many times have I made references to that episode lately? laugh.gif ) he did not know that Clair was alive. He was lied to and told that Sylar exploded, (either Sylar got someone with regen or it was Peter with Candace's ability, because he remembered stabbing "Sylar")

Anyway, Hiro had no idea that he had saved Clair, so he still had every reason to change the past.

The easy answer to why past Kaito does not notice his future self is tunnel vision. Here's the mindset:

My wife is dead, this is a terrible day. Where the heck is Hiro -- turn around and focus in on him -- he's busy goofing off with a toy sword. Don't really focus on the faces of the 2 guys near him, just focusing on getting my goofball son over here where he belongs.
Merp
If you saw yourself standing a fair distance away, back turned, ten years older, on the day of your wife's funeral, would you think "Wow, that's me. I must have time traveled." or "That guy looks a lot like me. Oh well."?
Admiralkirk
Kaito's focus is on his son -- not on the faces of the guys near him. Lil Hiro is much shorter than future Hiro and future Kaito -- so their faces would not even be something he'd necessarily look at.

If there had been any face recognition, he'd at least have done a double take to verify what he thought he had seen, by which time Hiro would have blinked them out of there.
CoffeeDiva
I think this *slight* problem is *slightly* overkilled.

Well, for one, we don't know exactly where Kaito was standing. He could be standing at the back of the crowd of people for all we know. And we know that that said crowd of people were standing up. If Kaito was at the back of all of them, the crowd would be blocking past-Kaito's view of timetravelled-Kaito.

Image of crowd: http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w121/cj...oeskaito242.png

Of course, that doesn't explain how timetravelled-Kaito could see past-Kaito but past-Kaito couldn't see timetravelled-Kaito. He might be standing only a little to one side of the crowd, on the opposite end of the crowd that Hiro and Hiro are standing on, I s'pose.

Nitpicking on episodes is so fun smile.gif

With all the stuff that Kaito has seen With the "Group of Twelve", i'm pretty sure seeing his son manifest his powers like that would be a little less of a shock than people think, besides in Japanese Ceremonies like that they have certain steps they take. He wouldn't ruin his wifes funeral just to go talk to his future self.

Give this man a prize! At first I was thinking about this too, as I watched it, but then I realized as Kaito said something like "this was the saddest/worst day of his life" he isn't focused on anything else at this point.
