You're right, he could be. Which would lead Hiro to having a katana pressed against his neck. Either way it's because of Adam, the man who betrayed him and Yaeko, and then killed his father.

i think he held a sword up peter's throat because he wanted to convince him that Adam is bad but peter wouldn't listen..
