Or does the guy who shoots Nathan, the one walking away in a black coat look like Thompson.

He always wore a black coat similar to the one that the shooter was wearing. He also was a member of the organization that never got killed off. If someone could post an image of scene where the shooter walks away it would be easier to compare, but it seems very likely it may be him.

Thompson gets owned in the face by Noah's bullet when he shoots him in season 1...he's dead.

yea i'm sorry...but Thompson got shot by HRG in the head in season 1 when they broke in the company to find Molly

Besides, they guy that walked away from the shooting had dark hair, and something tell me that the guy who did the shooting probably didn't use a gun. = )

Put me down in the "HRG shot Nathan" camp now.

Would be such sweet irony for me... favorite character shoots second favorite... second favorite shoots third... blast it! haha

The first time I saw it I wasn't really paying attention because I was still getting over the shock of Nathan being shot and I assumed it was Bob. But I looked at it again and just by looking at his posture and the way he walked, with his high shoulders and the way he broke out of the crowd with his head turned slightly (like a familiar angle we've seen many times), I really think it was HRG. It would make sense because it would show he really is back in the Company.

And it would be fitting for Volume 3 to be called "Villians" not just because of Sylar's true return but because HRG, the morally gray "Company Man" is back as well.
