BurnItUp
One of the problems that Heroes writers must face when trying to think up new exciting powers is that its almost all been done before. Flying and Telepathy are prime examples...

But what new, original powers would you really like to see new heroes with??

Until you try, it is very hard to come up with ideas that haven't been done before...

My only one is:

Being able to conjure inanimate objects out of thin air...e.g. thinking you want a sword and doing some crazy sciency stuff and making one out of nothing..Maybe far fetched but isn't time travel ?

Any more suggestions?? - I think we could come up with some awesome powers!!

Thanks

P.S. Get Claude Back !!!...or someone equally badass biggrin.gif
SleepingPhoenix
lol, sounds fun.

Well, considering that comic book canon has been around for so long, its a little difficult to come up with completely original powers. But in terms of underrated powers that haven't been seen so far...

Weather-control. Come on...how have we /not/ seen a Storm-like character yet?

Animal shape-shift. We've seen shape-shifting, but that wasn't actually real (Candice could bend light). The actual ability to change one's shape...possibly into an animal of similar size, or not. could be fun.

One of my personal favorites: Shadow Phasing/Manipulation. Literally, if the light is strong enough and your shadow defined enough, the Hero could mold into their shadow on the ground. Think...Peter pan, kinda? Maybe not even human shaped. Just a shadow moving along the ground =) Alternatively, the ability to actually manipulate shadows, blind people, etc...

EDIT: wow...thanks to whatever ***'d that unfortunate typo. fixed now.
ad the hobbit
Me and my mates always talk about this...

..making people fart through the power of mind..
..controlling peoples facial expressions..
..controlling growth of hair.. (nathans SUPER beard in two weeks!)
..other than that.. they've pretty much covered everything ever..

Idontwannabeasuperhero
(EDIT: Sleeping Phoenix, that's an unfortunate typo...)
Awesome powers! I want to be able to control people's facial expressions. It would be like having a room full of unsuspecting Jim Carreys...
The hair growth control one may already be spoken for, I'm afraid smile.gif

The ability to stop eating Jaffa cakes sad.gif

elasticity would be nice and the ability to crawl on walls and ceilings like a spider

but do u think they will repeat any more of the powers ?????????
i would love to see someone who can run realllllllly fast only to have his legs broken..

Omg.....I couldnt stop laughing!!!! Imagine a FLASH type character sitting there with his legs broke!!! Sylar would be like "I told you, you cant run forever!!!" lol, brillant!!!

Super speed is the only power that comes to mind (that will actually fit in the Heroes-verse) Maybe some of the powers from the interactive novels (instant knowledge of any language(forgot scientific name) and the copying ability seemed kinda cool to me).

Sylar is just too funny when it comes to his little jokes just before he kills. His reaction to Maya's rage over Alejandro was hilarious. biggrin.gif

Hah, I loved that, too XD

Well, there are lots of powers that I'd like to see/can see being implemented in Heroes. Here are my top few 'villain' powers:

1. Replication. Though, not like that guy in the comics but more like Agent Smith from the Matrix in that the person is able to create duplicates/copies of himself by using others. When used on other people with powers, the copy gains those powers as well.

2. Density manipulation. Makes the person able to control his/her own density at will, able to become extremely light or heavy at any time. This would endow the person with very hard punches as well as near infinite inertia.

3. Foresight. The person is aware of what is about to happen, allowing him/her to anticipate an opponent's next move. This can come about either with a version of precognition that is constant but only for the near future (like a second or so) or from a brain developed towards probability calculation and analysis.

4. Teleautokinesis. The person is able to detach his/her own body parts which can function independently from the main body. Would work well for a spy-type character as well as for a Halloween episode.

5. Power manipulation. Allows the person to directly manipulate other people's powers; amplifying them or deactivating them at will as well as forcing them to use it even against their will. Would be perfect for the season's Big Bad as it would be a character even Sylar would be afraid of.

Ah, that's what that's called. I remember that from Angel.

Hmm.. there's Pyrokinesis.. Someone has to have that, as didn't we see future Peter using fire?

Something like..that, but with water instead, earth and air as well?
How about the manipulation of gravity around the person, or an area?
Cloning has been done, but only in the graphic novel, so that would be okay for the show.

Claire's bio-mom had it; so they either bring her back in or make a new one.

an elementalist would be awesome
=James=
psi balls. In Theory, Sylar and Peter should be able to use them, both are related to Telekinesis. That's what I thought the electicity ability was when I first saw it at the end of ep 1 of volume 2. I thought it was a psi ball sad.gif
MrJP
The ability to fuse one's body to objects. Extending your arm with a 3-foot pole can give you a lot of hit-power, you'll be able to stop knifes stabbed at you by grabbing the blade. Or be immoveable because you're seriously rooted to the ground.

Parrot voice - ability to mimic any sound after you heard it. Candice seemed to be able of this, she did change her voice if she changed form, but that was only of voices.
or
Audio/wave manipulation - Ability to create soundless area's or create a single tone in an area and specificly one area. Ability to talk to someone left of you while the one right of you can't hear a thing. Or create low frequencies and make everyone unwell.

Superiuor smell - You could smell emotion, with a brain dedicated to it you would be able to "see" the world around you like your eyes now do.

Enlargement/shrinking

darkvision - hey, not everything can be world saving

Concious hometase/ awareness - Ability to release fluids or chemicals from your body. Peeing out poison out instantly, think about, you could be drinking all night without getting drunk.

It would be very awesome. Perhaps.. over-powered though.

Ok, so...

This is like Ted Spragues, but certainly a different thing in essence: The power is based of what is inhaled. The body doesn't convert the air that is breathed into CO2, rather, any substance can be inhaled, and this in turn can be converted into some kind of energy: heat, light, atomic energy, etc. Then, with the evolution of this power is: levatation and super sonic speed letting the energy burst the body through space, and being able to create energy spheres and control their movement (DBZ-esque, I know)

Optical powers- xray vision, and/or the power to zoom in and out of focus, the zoom in part maybe being as great or greater that that of the world's best mircoscopes, as for out of focus thing, idk, maybe enhanced peripheral vision? lol Heat vision, ice vision, or the power to shoot electricity from teh eyes

Enhanced jumping?

Strictly teleporting, like Hiro's w/o the time manipulation, evolution=instantly moving, like super speed w/o the running

The ability to drain the life force from things, or just enforcing decay or death upon orcanic matter. evolution- being able to take life over a wide area

Oposite the shadow power would be to control light, or rather, behave like light and transferring ones body in the form of light, so, say, when being hit, if their body gets turned into light they are unaffected by the attck. A drawback can be that if some body is turned into light, the rest of the body may have to follow.

that is all for now. cool.gif
tashnag_01
changing ur body parts into machinery would be pretty cool..

imagine changing ur arms into missile launchers!

I was reading one of the role-playing threads on here the other day, and someone's power was to be able to change the pH balance of anything just by willing it. I was just blown away by how nifty that idea was.

Otherwise, Superspeed would be nice.

Perhaps to be able to control elements, earth, wind, fire, water.
Claire's Mom has fire, and one of the dudes from the comics had water.
But it would be cool for someone to be able to control earth, make large mounds of dirt pummel someone completely. OR, help dig a certain buried-alive-bad-guy out of his grave?

yea control elements would be great enough...as long as they don't meet up with Peter

And oh the ability to talk to animals also work (since they got micah...why not a 'non-machine' micah lol)

also Gravity manipulation...Oh i would love that power =D

The Haitian can already do this - albeit partly. Whenever he's around, the heroes can't use their powers. Giving him the ability to use someone else's powers against them would be freaking awesome!!!

Click to view attachmentCouple of things I would love to see.. I would love to see someone with Gambit like powers-charge and blow up anything he/she touhes..Along of course super speed, also someone with tattoos that come alive like that dude from electra...And someone with liquid metal powers like terminator 2 people please tell me do my ideas sound far fetched??
Jelly
Personally I would like to see someone introduced with umbrakinesis, which is the manipulation of darkness and shadows. :)
mr. peasant
How about Jinxing? The ability to induce bad luck (maybe even fatally so) on anyone the person touches would be an interesting power to showcase as it has countless possible uses. It would work well for the 'reluctant villain' type character who is convinced that s/he is evil/bad and can be nothing else do to his/her power.
dgrady
Few ideas apologies if any have been mentioned

Magnetism- Ability to control/manipulate metallic objects

Technopath- ability to create/manipulate technology (though Micah can already manipulate)

Ability to control gravity

shape shifter

Ability to manipulate molecules (so basically anything)

one idea someone mentioned before was to be able to turn parts of your body into things like weapons, maybe you could integrate that with the magnetism power where the persons body or parts of it turn to metal (like colossus from xmen) and with the ability to manipulate metal can change the parts of there body into weapons etc i think that would be pretty cool.
ossie000
the power to taste colours

hey, who said that these powers should make sense?

energy draining: the ability to drain someone's energy, and use it to recover yourself, trow energy balls, or stay young
DarkJesus
Nicked from One piece.

- Being able to turn parts of the body to steel, creating blades and whatever else. (Mr. 2)
- Being able to manipulate smoke. (Lt. Smoker)
- Being able to manipulate sand. (Crocodile, also think Gaara from Naruto)

From Naruto.

- Some kind of snake manipulation (Orochimaru).
- 360 degree vision, including being able to see through objects (byakugan).

Also, some kind of weapon based power that I was hoping Kaito would have.
hellblazer
I'd like to see Acid generation - Ability to generate acid, can be manifested through touch or as a spray.

eriks
Controll the speed of molecules: This ability will allow you to change the temperature, create winds and melt/condence metals etc.

Audio manipulation: This one would fit perfectly for a cunning bad guy. He would be able to change what people was hearing. He would be able to dominate alot of Heroes with that ability.

Gravity manipulation: This would allow you fly (or actually jump really high). You could actually make a huge stone weigh nothing and hurl it towards your enemies and right before it hit them, make it return to their original weight.

DNA manipulation (only on yourself): This one is huge. Imagine that you wanted four legs, then you simply "tell" your DNA to change to let you have four legs.
halidaaa
i was thinking amplification

so you don't make anything, just amplifying what's alReady theRe.. like when you'Re tRapped with a villain and you have no weapon, you can just scReam then amplify the sound to a Reasonably annoying level biggrin.gif
andrzej
Power of being able not to get exhausted. A person with such power wouldn't need to eat or sleep much an would never get tired. A perfect scientist.

Also power of changing somebodys DNA, being able to change the genetic code in order to give or take someones ability. But this would be to big and could make to much mess.

I also thought of a power of controling objects that you've touched. Could be used to make a table walk smile.gif or to spy on somenoe (if you touch a camera).

Someone who could control temerature would be cool. Or maybe someone who could control the light by sucking it from the atmosphere (like the little Dumbledore's gadget)

A person who would not have his own body, but would be able to take control of other people bodies an "jump" from one to another.

A real genius who could build EVERYthing

Replication and shapeshifting would be cool if the proces was painful (not like in the comic book).

Anyway I like most of your suggestions and I hope that the writers will come up with something new and reeealy amazing.
Timewalker

I want to see a villain with the power of Possession. He/She can control/possess living objects starting one at a time (maybe the symbol appears on them when this happens). It would be as if the power allows them to jump into their object of possession and control it from within. The uses of it are endless. Following/hunting a hero through possessing a bird... Possessing a hero and trying to imitate him/her so for episodes the others don't realize or just think something is "off" until the right time comes about to strike. Maybe if the possessor doesn't exit the body before it dies, then he/she dies..

The power to see Time. Someone could see how each action they take can affect a timeline, where they would get a flash of the future or maybe just immediate futures. Like before they eat a piece of bad sushi, they see a flash of themselves throwing up in the toilet lol. This could evolve into a "spider-sense" like power where the hero (or villain) can feel out the immediate futures or react to an event and almost slow time in a way to make the right choice.... maybe. This power is confusing me now but seems like a cool twist on a time power.

The power to absorb light. Someone who can create total darkness and possibly also see in complete darkness or sense in it at least. Maybe also some kind of cloaking ability where they can hide in the darkness. Evolved maybe they can expell absorbed light as a laser (okay that might be too much lol).

GREAT IDEA:

Personally im looking forward to seeing all these powers mentioned above. But what id love too see happen is maybe the Company or someone taking the knowlege learnt on how the Hero's get there power and then using that knowlege to become a hero themselves?

Also id love to see a android...I know it sounds madness considering Hero's is set in the real world but then I guess he could have been built by someone who's power was they where super smart???

In terms of different abilities, anyones whos seen all of The 4400 should realise the sky's the limit!
starwarsgeek
Hydrokinesis
Geokineis
Aerokineis
"Naturekinesis"

any other "path" abilities? We already have our techopath (micah), our telepath (Matt), and our phsycopath (sylar rolleyes.gif )

Rico
id want something like a warlock (yes... i know, from WoW. i used to play alot but now i stopped thanks to school.)

they could summon demons to do their bidding (even a horse to ride around), control the darkness and fire and even put b/a curses on people. its a very overpowered power for a villian imo.

another disease power like mayas could be cool. id also really like it if thye emphasized the alchemy power of bob. its got a great amount of potential.

lol
adzster
also it would be good to control the worlds gravatational pull, or peoples. In other words u could increase gravity so much that a person just splats to the floor or u could reduce gravity so much that they float away into space...AWSOME

also shape shifting would be cool aswell
ahenry
i think someone who coulld absorb the energy of something, like a rock, steel, or water.
TeddyBear616
X-Ray vision! good for spys. lol

Or how about the power to turn the air into poison gas that does different things, like one kind of gas could instantly kill them, another kind could just put them to sleep, and another kind could slowly kill them until the bleed to death, kinda like the gas on Saw 2 where it was making the people bleed through their skin. Ha ha that would be cool!

Or the power to scream so loud that it would either make them go deph or bleed through their ears! and would eventually kill them or make them go mad.

Or a human lie detector

Or a human metal detector too. They could be rich!

What about the ability to sense and identify other peoples powers (that could lead to finding out some of the other founders powers)

or the ability to see schematics of buildings /maps etc and know where to go (like how the operators worked in the matrix sorta thing) basically a human GPS

Ability to manipulate plants and trees and stuff like that

Ability to temporarily or permanently give other people powers (they have came in contact with) the Company would like that one

Ability to hack into anything with your mind or that you come into contact with (the possessing someone idea could work with this power)

Ability to forge or copy anything you come into contact with

Aility to create shields

ability to resurect people from the dead (maybe if they die within a certain timeframe they can be fully brought back otherwise can bring them back to a zombie like state)

gfish
I'm liking a lot of these.

Precognition:Has been mentioned a few times, and it would be reasonable cheap effects wise.
I think one of the best examples of this power would be in the movie "Next" or the book it was taken from "The Golden Man" he could see only 2 minutes into the future, but only his future. This allowed him to attempt different things, have a conversation with someone before they entered the room etc. Check it out if you get a chance, I'm not saying it was the best movie, but explains the power well.

Gravity Control: Has also been mentioned, if this power was developed enough they could create a black hole and destroy the Planet! That's pretty powerful.

Elasticity: Has been mentioned, but I wasn't thinking along the lines of Mr Fantastic (fantastic 4), Elastigirl (Incredibles), Elongated Man, Plastic Man etc. But more that things bounce off them, they'd have no pain, however it would be very hard for them to hurt someone else. So not the best power but an interesting one that could evolve through the show. Maybe a better boyfriend for Claire than Westicle.

Vibration: Nothing freaky! The ability to vibrate things at different frequencies would cause them to disintegrate, could emit sound waves at different frequencies etc. Similar to a couple of other powers mentioned.
OverDose_
Pheromone Manipulation - Like Desiree from Smallville, it would not be too expensive on effects, it would be a great way to bring back an Eden type character.

Replication - I really wanted this, but Evan from the comic took it (however, he did use it to prove a point, I thought it was badass)

Blinking - More like JMPR, or NightCrawler
-I can see Hiro pulling off some JMPR affects, I want him to pull off an Omnislash =/

Echovision/X-Ray Vision - Would be cool, but too much like Daredevil =/.
-Sylar might get this with the super hearing, perhaps he will hear Adam in the ground.

Enhanced Sense of Balance - Like the guy from Electra,
-can easily be a subskill of Monica

Astral Projection - Body Jumping I thought this was Jessica's power, but Nikki just has problems =/.

As I have said before, a lot of powers just like useless because of Telekinesis =/, bye bye Gravity Manipulation, Magnetics, Seismic Waves, Force Fields, Elasticity. I think it would be more important to show how people's powers can be used for different situations. For example, I enjoyed that DL became a firefighter, its a very convenient power for that job, or perhaps Elle should do a city wide blackout during an episode to help some heroes escape from someone. And again, I would like to emphasize on how badass Hiro would be if he did the classic samurai fatalities.

if anyones read thud by terry prattchet i think the ability that the vampire has to be able to turn in to a load of bats would be cool but as is pointed out in that theres a lot to think about making a thousand minds try and do everything at the same time.

a reflective power would be cool, being able to bounce someone else ability back at them, that would bug the crudd out of sylar lol.

enhanced sight, being able to see the smallest detail and a long way off ( could be second sight the ability to see a split second in to the future to)

i'll think of some more when im suposed to be at work lol.
