I quote from the news report:

"...was shot by an unknown ASSASSIN..."

assassin, not assailient... sad.gif

EDIT: Tim Kring announced that Nathan's fate is up in the air. We are now debating whether the writers should have used the word "assassin" if they were not deffinately killing him.
hellblazer
doesn't mean too much after all, Kring said that Nathan's future is up in the air so he may survive yet.

That doesn't mean anything. Did you also notice that the news report said 'shot' and not 'shot dead'. There's still hope for Nathan. Killing him off would be a big mistake. Looks like Niki's going to bite the dust this time..

mellow.gif Don't Forget Sylar, imagine what that would lead too.

They have better not killed nathan off. He is my favorite character and when he was shot I started crying.. They can't kill off the frying man!!! (hiro's accent)

This is not true, as I may have mentioned somehere before, because earlier on Nathan smashed his hand against a mirror and the cuts he recieved didn't heal back.

I personally don't believe Nathan will die because a large enough fan-base will make him endure anything, just look at Sylar wink.gif He inexplicably survived numerous events without any real explanation where any other person would have been killed. And it just doesn't seem right when Nathan dies with Peter of all people right next to him, and that SOB Maya is revived from the miracle blood.

yOU KNOW If this is the case, that regeneration passes thru the blood transfusion, then nobody ever dies... and that would be like... SUCK?!

wouldn't "shot dead by an unknown assassin" be a bit redundant?

and no, he punched the mirror and didn't regen

Not necessarily. The word 'assassin' can also be applied to someone who attempted to kill someone. Now, if they had said 'Nathan Petrelli had been assassinated by an unknown gunman', then that would mean he's dead.

looked up assassin and it doesn't look good for nathan fans.. "a MURDERER"

True, the strict, English definition of the word 'assassin' is that. However, in everyday use and in the media, the word 'assassin' is also used even if the person failed in the assassination attempt. Case in point:

QUOTE(http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2007%5C11%5C11%5Cstory_11-11-2007_pg3_5)
...A failed assassination attempt was carried out against Papadopoulos in August 1968.

The assassin ignited a bomb along the road where Papadopoulos’ motorcade was designed to pass...

Also, Kring specifically mentioned that Nathan's fate was still up in the air. So regardless what the strict definition of the word and its use are, the show meant it to be ambiguous.

Ooo, but what if it was Peter that went back and shot him, to stop Nathan revealing the secret of the Heroes abilities?

Why not?
I was just thinking that it may have been a future version of Peter, one that's been recruited by the company, or perhaps just his mother, to stop Nathan telling the world about the Heroes.

Vote Petrelli.
Save Nathan Movement!!!

Kring said his fate is up in the air, so we fans will decide. And what do most of you say? LIVE yes? I want to see his character develop to be like HRG, he after all has almost the weakest power. The best time I've ever seen it used offensively is by West. Hope West returns too. Doesn't matter how or for what, but I think I'd like to see flying used in a more... kick a** way. While Nathan can be the powered version of HRG.
Sylar_n1
I hope they bring him back, there's no plot without the brothers...

Atheshar
Nathan hasn't had a bad scene yet, not even in Season 2. In fact I rather enjoyed how snarky he got with Bob, who couldn't put one over on the politician. He has miles of potential just inches away from the writers' fingertips, so here's to dearly hoping he stays on.
starwarsgeek
future "up in the air"...those writers need to learn to english. they shouldn't have said "assassin" if he's not necesarily dead...oh well, at least he may come back. biggrin.gif

You should've read my last post. Just because they said 'assassin', it doesn't mean that the hit was a success (at least as far as everyday use and mass media language is concerned). I even provided real life, textual evidence of such an occurrence.
Varis
For everyone trying to play semantics with the word "assassin," it can simply refer to someone who is a professional killer. Is a carpenter only a carpenter at the moment he finishes a piece of wood-work, or would you refer to him as a carpenter at all times as long as he is in the profession of making things out of wood (even if he sometimes messes up a project)? Same with an assassin.

Not that there's any point in arguing anymore, but if he's "unknown," then how would thye know he's professional or random nut with a gun?

Because he doesn't shoot randomly: he places 2 nice aimed shots at Nathan and can get away?

Much like Mohinder who was able to accurately shoot Noah in the eye and he's a professional assasin...

Er...
Benny_pr
well...... Peter does have Adam's curative blood.... so a small transfution from peter to Nathan and he's brand new.....

pez
they only left it hanging so we could argue over it in the gap if enought of us complain about it they wont kill him simple as this is a show with poeple power!

and as for nathan i don't think he's done for it's something massive if they do kill him and the only reason for it is if it's to propel peter in to some sort of crazy revenge
beanbagofdoom
I think in season 3 he's going to be in a coma, and peter will be protecting him while assasins come after him, peter will kill ninja's!!!
Atheshar
I'd love to see Peter in some ninja-war action. =p

How can Angela recruit a future Peter when she can't even time travel. it would be real lame to say that she wrote a letter for the future peter to read... comeon, Peter wouldn't do that to nathan, not after the way he's totally dependent on him.
Archis
yea...i dont count on future badass peter....

No?

Well how can you throw out a wild speculation that she can't time travel?

Yes. But premeditation + political target + public area = assassin. Or at least, likely. Not to mention, when was the last time the media didn't jump the gun? wink.gif

Yeah that was never explained, although I expect the bullets got lodged in his body fat, coz not many people would survive that many shots to the chest.

I'm not entirely convinced. For 1, we thought he was dead at the end of season one, when he flew up peter-the-bomb-treli, and he ended up being alive. For 2, they basically PROMISED that captain badass would end up dead throughout season 2, and he never died. For 3, an assassination means that someone died, an assassin can be either "the person who killed a specific person" or - more likely in this case - "some who kills for a living."

He may not be in the best shape, but he isn't as bad as Cartman. (And that can only be a good thing)
