Full Version: PETER IS NOT STUPID
Got Heroes > Heroes: Episode Discussion > Volume Two: Generations > Chapter 11 - "Powerless"

Angela said in the very beginning (season 1) that Peter was weak. You can really see how gullible and weak he is (not literally of course), he relies on Nathan for most of his decisions. I think Kring made it really realistic and he did a good job with Peter. Peter can be very powerful but the downside of his being powerful is that mentally and emotionally he is weak.

'HE'S NOT STUPID guys, he is just weak. And I think that's fine. We don't want him all powerful both in mind and abilities...that'll be TOO PERFECT. And in this world, there's really nothing perfect.

So those who said that Peter is stupid, you need to dig deep into his personality.

agreed

at least he's learning to fight now:

Season 1, first encounter with Sylar:

"Okay, i'm invisable so there's no way he can beat me...I'll just turn my back on him now...oww, the back of my head hurts for some reaso..."

Volume 2 Finale: owning Hiro and Matt at the same time, beating guards, ect.

"Five Years Gone"
well, we know how awesome he was then.
Silentsoto
Yeah that makes sense, classic little brother issues, basically co-dependecy. Will follow "big brother" anywhere and doesn't make decisions without his consent.
Archis
u make sense...
yea i guess that peter deserves a second chance of judgement!

was just wondering if his personality in 5 years could have been down to the fact he killed all those people when he blew up made him slightly darker.

possibly, but he doesn't really need a dark personality to be a good fighter. he just needs more experience

FINALLY!!! Some people who agree with me.

I love Peter... I've loved him since day 1 and I keep defending him everywhere I go. And you have to remember that not only is Peter "weak"... Peter is also all about "love" as Charles Deveaux said. He loves people and wants to see the best in everyone... like Nathan said at the end of 11. He trusts that everyone is as good as he is... that everyone is out to save the world.

I've been going back through and rewatching season 1... wow... it's actually surprising how much Peter has grown up since the beginning. He really has. He was so much more immature last season, in a lot of different ways.

Anyway, YAY for this thread! Thank you!

Now... if they can just keep Nathan around... because I don't think he needs to die for Peter to grow as a person. In fact, if they kill him off, I think it's gonna seriously mess with Peter's head because he's gonna blame himself... again. And we've seen what that does - he just wants to hide away from the world... or maybe now that he's "grown" he might go on a killing spree, going after who ever is responsible. But that's not really the Peter I want to see. I'd rather see him grow slowly as a character... with Nathan by his side. *sniffle*

I thought it was rather weird why he wasn't 'weak' enough to trust, not one, but two of his pals he met in the previous season which he knows are good. (Hiro wanted to save the world before, didn't he?)

He strangled Hiro and threw Matt in the air?? I just think he wasn't himself at that time because he was concentrating on saving Caitlin.. -.-

great thread, it's all true

I have to admit i disagree that Peter believing in Adam was "weak". Adam saved his brother Nathan who had gotten severe burns after sacrificing himself to save NY from an exploding Peter. Peter must have been feeling really guilty about everything and Adam offered him a way out, a way to make all the pain go away. Thats why he trusted Adam with his life. Why would he believe Hiro and Matt? Neither of them saw Nathan fly Peter into the sky to explode, neither of them saw a future ravaged by the virus and neither of them were in a prison cell with Adam for 3 months. They had no idea what Peter had been through why would he trust them over someone who had healed his brother? If somebody healed my brother of the burns Nathan had i would trust them with my life.

how much time had Peter spent with those two though? Less than a minute with Hiro and a while with Matt while being interrogated.

you can understand how 4 months with the guy that saved Nathan might be a slightly stronger bond.

Yeah, I shudder to think what Peter will do if Nathan dies. Peter is the character who has grown the most, but I think he's going to want revenge against Nathan's assailant whether Nathan dies or not. What'd be even crazier is if Peter is on a hunt for his future self...

And yeah, I think Future Peter shot Nathan sad.gif I'm sure he'd have his reasons for doing so, but yeah

i don't think future Peter killed/shot nathan contrary to my previous theory. because: Angela was talking to the one responsible on her celphone. How can she talk to future peter?

Angela: I understand, it was unavoidable. You do know that you have just opened pandora's box.

she was talking to the assassin.

How do you know who she was talking to...

She could just as well be talking to the person who ORDERED Nathans assassination...
And the person ordering the assassination is unlikely to be the assassin themselves...

Personally, the way the mystery person walked away from the scene, that swagger looked VERY much like Peter (although it was probably supposed to!!)

Again, assassin or mastermind, it doesn't matter. It could not have been future Peter. The only person who can time travel is Peter and Hiro. Angela couldn't have been talking to either. or what, future peter was tasked by a present person? then, how could that present person go to the future if not by time travel? and the only one who can do that is Hiro. So she was talking to whom?

The only people that can time travel (THAT WE KNOW OF) are Peter and Hiro...
And, of course, anyone that they are holding on to when they 'jaunt'...

So... for example... Angela *could* be talking to Bob, who leaves a message
for a future generation to receive to travel back in time and attack Nathan (for
reasons as yet unknown)...

Just like Hiro left a message for Ando via the scrolls in the sword...

Also, remember also that Hiro travelled from the future to the past to speak to
Peter to give him a message...

Also, remember that Hiro once telephoned himself at work...

When you are dealing with time-travel, ANYTHING can happen...

But...

The fact remains that Nathan is THE MOST IMPORTANT person to Peter. When Adam asked Peter to remember what was most important to him, what did Peter do? He took out a pic of Nathan... he knew it instinctually and when Adam said his name, all his memories came back.

So...

If future Peter came back to stop present Nathan from exposing them... why not come back 5 minutes earlier, pull Nathan to the side and tell him what a horrible mistake it would be? Why shoot him? His own brother, who he loves most of everyone?

Makes no sense... to me... sorry.

Ah, but do you know what has happenned in the interim period between Nathan making the speech, and future Peter (if it is him) being sent back to kill him?

No you don't.

I have to agree with Nicky. Even if something happens in between that speech and the future Peter, I don't think Peter would have the heart to kill his own brother. Granting the fact that Nathan is alive during that future time, Peter would still be joining forces with Nathan, relying on his judgments, being a younger brother that he is. So why would he go back to kill him? He could just go back and stop him from making that speech, kidnap him and talking to him. That just doesn't make sense. The story between these two is the strong brotherhood and the love that exist between them, how many brothers do you know can say "I love you" to each other openly?

i would hope all of them.

what kind of world is this?

You know something else you're forgetting is that Nathan may not actually be dead. We heard the news reporter say "shot...he never said "killed".

I dont think peter is stupid but he just is to trusting and sees good in everyone. like charles deveux said all that matters is love and peter just wants to save the world so he becomes weak to adam saying that he is trying to save the world wink.gif
