Full Version: Question about powers

I'm not sure if this goes here or not. I made another topic, but it went unanswered. If I'm putting all these topics in the wrong area, mods please inform me. smile.gif

I can't think of a specific episode that this question would go under. It is generally about their powers which are used every episode.

Question 1

How are the powers used exactly? Obviously this question can't be answered with hard fact, but I'm curious about other's opinions on it. For example, when Elle uses electricity, how does she call upon it? Does she just think about electricity and all of a sudden it pops out of her flesh? How does Hiro "freeze" time? Does he think in his head "stop, stop, stop, stop, stop" and time "obeys"? I was just curious how others thought the powers were generated.

Question 2

How do other's percieve Hiro's powers? For example, when Hiro froze time in Primatech and Peter electrocuted him. All of a sudden, time started moving again because he was unconcious. To the various workers/Adam, what did they see? Hiro suddenly appearing on the floor out of thin air? Hiro moving at lightening speed until he ended up on the floor? In general, when Hiro freezes time, do others "see" Hiro, but just moving VERY fast or do they see nothing except that moment they're frozen in? If it is the latter, how do they percieve the changes? I never understood how Charlie saw the cranes that Hiro made. One moment they aren't there and then they are the next. For Charlie, it must have just appeared out of thin air?

Question 3

Can Matt Parkman be mentally tricked? I was curious about Matt's ability to "read" other's minds. It almost seems like people think of the answer to his questions and he simply "hears" it. Is that the case or is he searching deep in the mind and simply finds the answer? Could you trick him? If he hypothetically wanted to know where Sylar was and somebody knew he was in Mexico, could someone think "New York, New York, New York, New York" and Matt would believe it to be New York? Or is that not the way his powers work?

Anywho, I know some of the questions can't be answered with absolute certainty, but I was curious what others thought. smile.gif

Question 1:i think it varies, meaning it seemed as this was something intuitive with all heroes, how their power activated i mean, but u can see in the show that theyre getting it more to a point of concious effect takes over but how it looks under the hood when its triggered?i think u have to call Kring on that one! laugh.gif ...though i thought the interaction between Elle and Peter showed an interesting take to your question just sad it didnt really gave the whole answer.........

Question 2:hmm about Charlie..Hiro must have been sitting in frozentime for an hour making those cranes biggrin.gif actually that scene still got me bewildered...any ideas?

Question 3: i think Parkman would be perseptive enough to see through fake thoughts, though Noahs insurance of a memory loss might be confirming that Parkman is more than dependable to actually see a thought for what it is and i think too that his mindreading in addition to subconcious reactions of human behaviour make it somewhat easier to see a persons intention, (in Matts case who is a cop should have training in this) so i would think that his mindreading in the beginning at least was more a thought validator and occasional hints provider... of course i might be way off course here... the only time ive seen Parkman fooled so to speak is through the first encounter with the Haitin which caught him off-guard and later on Matts dad fools him at their first re-encounter but what caught me at first is that he is being lied to before his dad unleashes power so im guessin that it depends on Matts emotional/awareness state of mind...

Q1: I think in the beginning it's more of a conscious effort like learning to ride a bike then in time it just comes naturally.

Q2: Seeing as time is frozen I think the see absolutely nothing, so to them Hiro just popped out of thin air. I am not a scientist yet have watched enough star trek, star gate, x files, outer limits. To know that when a certain object or individual stops or manipulates time then any other object nor individual sees time as passing normally yet for the given object / individual time is passing at an accelerated rate, you could experience a second while the given object / being experience an hour. So to your sensory input the whole scenario would result in Hiro popping out of thin air.

Q3: I also doubt that he can be mentally tricked as he is reading the "thought bubble" formed by your unconscious mind.

Yet I could still be wrong, anyone care to read my mind?!
Kyo
Cool you would mention x-files SJ13,just bought the complete series! biggrin.gif dry.gif but i`ve heard rumours about a 'x-files:the movie sequel'? interesting... cool.gif

hmm interesting Carp are u implying that adam can think/react conciously while his body is solid frozen? tongue.gif naw seriously uhm i think thats a possibility though, i mean Adam might be able to see but since time is frozen hes not able to thought process it,so he could then get a intuitive aftershock when he's unfrozen since his eyes still adjusting to previous changes in front of him, basically get 2-3 moments worth of regular time slapped in his brain (overload of perception)
Dont know if this answers anything hehe smile.gif

oh nothing...this just smacked me an eyeopener, looking throu my last posts wasnt that great either.. blink.gif

Anywayz about powers.. did Peter actually absorb adams' immortality?

And i was just wondering about Peter, as he's battling Hiro he wasnt effected by being frozen by time,so how come he was fooled by Hiro `jumping space` assaulting him from behind?meaning even though at a lower level of development, shouldn`t Peter be able to counter attack/react in some way?

Peter already absorbed Claire's ability which is the exact same as Adam's.

Bending space isn't the same as bending time. That's all I can say because it's impossible to know for sure.

^^yea im just saying that Peter shouldn`t have reacted so overwhelmed by it since he displays the same traits? just curious..

Again, Peter doesn't know the full, complex details of his powers since he has so many of 'em. He probably doesn't know how to teleport yet.

Backing up my previous point, in the beginning Hiro found it hard to move through space but easy to freeze time. It works differently.

Oh wow, thanks for the responses.

Good point, Carp on how Adam percieves things. I'm unsure if they get flashes of images, because they never mentioned that though.
